Baruga New Testament Dedication

"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:10-11

In June, we had the priviledge of attending the Baruga New Testament dedication in Oro Province!

Jim and Joan were the translation advisors for the Baruga translation program. The translation was started by Jim and his first wife and it was their second language program in PNG.  When Jim's first wife passed away, he continued alone until he married Joan about 10 years ago. They had a large team working together to accomplish the huge task of translation. Below is a picture with all the members of the translation team!

Many months of preparation went into getting ready for this incredible celebration! Please pray for the Baruga people, as life returns to its normal rhythms, that they would hunger for God's Word and that reading and hearing His Word (through Audibibles) would change many lives and hearts. Jim and Joan will be retiring this year, but the Baruga plan to continue with the Old Testament translation--please continue to pray for this Baruga translation team!

One of the days, Melody was able to test and treat 21 children for malaria. Access to healthcare in this area is quite limited.

Praise and Prayer

  • Pray for our clinic team! One of the patients who had to be medevac'd to Australia that we asked for prayer for was one of our physical therapists, who had fallen and broken her back in three places, as well as sustaining a severe concusion (from which she delt with post concussive syndrome). Praise God for her recovery, and that she was able to begin modified duty back at the clinic a few weeks ago! Another medevac'd patient was one of our doctors (who was serving as our clinic manager)--he is also recovering and will return to PNG, Lord willing, in the next month or two.
  • Praise God that Matt Terhune, the new IT person joining the network team, has arrived and is currently training with Andrew before we leave for furlough! Pray for him as he learns his new role here and for his wife, Emily, and 3-year old, Elijah, as they settle into life here as well.
  • We have our tickets to return to the US for a 9-month furlough in October! We have a house and vehicle lined up, but please pray for all the other details that still need to be lined up! We look forward to reconnecting with family, friends, and many ministry partners.
