Sarah Lou and Red Hill Sr- Outdoor Painting
Sara Lou Stuart is a Niagara Falls-born painter who has taken to capturing some of her favourite local history heroes in paint. Last summer, she painted Ruth Redmond's portrait across time at Redmond Heights. This summer, she is painting Red Hill Sr by the Old Scow. Along with her realistic and dreamy portraits, Sara Lou is painting expressive surreal landscapes that aim to capture the spirit of the land she paints on: last summer, the Lundy's Lane battlefield; and this summer, the Niagara River. You can catch Sara Lou finishing her portrait of Ms. Redmond at Redmond Heights while Battleground Hotel Museum is open, or painting Red Hill Sr along the river by chance.

NIAGARA FALLS NIGHT OF ART
Sept 20 6-10pm
ARTIST PROFILE: Ashley Marazzo
Like Cultural Currents August 2018 on Facebook
This year I am creating an artistic representation of a Völva (Norse Seer or Shaman) tent [a fully framed wedge tent] surrounded by a garden of metal, stone and bone. I will be hand sewing the tent out of canvas and adorning it with various culturally significant symbols and re-creations of some relics. The inside of the tent will feature a woman dressed as a Seer in historically accurate costuming throwing bones and giving short readings as well as hand crafted table, chair, runes, etc.
The Norse were fierce and curious travelers who adapted many aspects of their life from other cultures they visited along the way as well as many blade forging, boat building, and artisan techniques. MORE
