PUBLIC ART PROPOSAL PRESENTED TO THE CITY OF NAPLES

Proposed Compositional Collage
Approved by the Naples Historical Society

Southwest Florida Historical Mural
at the Gordon River Underpass in Naples.

My intention for this project is to create a mural that depicts all the beauty and splendor of Southwest Florida’s natural environments, including both costal and inner habitats with the animals native to those areas along with the various groups of people that have inhabited and shaped this land throughout history.

When the mural is completed, the intent is to make all visitors feel identified and represented as significant contributors to the area’s transformation, growth and development.

By celebrating our past we are able to grow from what we have learned and become closer as a community.

After 10 months of proper research for the best materials and process of completing this project in order to reassure quality, safeness and durability.

And in preparation for the mural design, I gathered information through extensive research of details like the list of plants and animals native to Southwest Florida and I visited all of the Collier County Museums as well as reading and looking through all the archives and public records available online.

This was the mural concept proposed on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 to the City of Naples' Public Art Advisory Commitee for their consideration.

Parallel Harmonies: Art and Nature
Unite Arts Council of Collier County
Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve

“An artist must possess Nature. He must identify with her rhythm, by efforts that will prepare the mastery which will later enable him to express himself in his own language.” Henri Matisse

The relationship between the artist and the natural world that inspires him or her has evolved over the millennia and is still a central focus of contemporary practice for many artists today. Relationships are symbiotic, one taking care of the other. In a time of global climate change, artists are using the inspiration of nature and its current health to bring light and change to human patterns of behavior. They aim to protect this relationship and care for what inspires them. Wind, color. Trees, texture. Sun, vibrancy.

“Art is a harmony parallel with nature.” Paul Cézanne
