Former Bank of Scotland Building - Public Ballot

The next crucial stage in our project to secure the former Bank of Scotland building for the community is now upon us.

Wigtown & Bladnoch Community Initiative is proposing to buy the former Bank of Scotland building and garden ground on behalf of the community and to create a multi-purpose community facility. By doing this we will are looking to provide much-needed affordable housing and bunkhouse accommodation.  The Initiative is committed to ensuring that any services offered will be additional and complementary to what is already available in the town and will not replicate anything that is currently being offered at Machars Action, the McNeillie Library IT suite or any other Wigtown business or organisation.

Based on what people have said in recent consultations, our ambition is to create a base from which Wigtown & Bladnoch Community Initiative can deliver a combination of affordable rented housing aimed at local people, and bunkhouse accommodation to support tourism.  We are looking at this featuring a small flexible space that might include internet access and community banking.  We hope to create and deliver employment, training and volunteering opportunities.

If W&BCI is successful with the acquisition of the property, there is a framework in place for the real and democratic community ownership, development and management of 21 North Main Street. If you are not already a member, please get involved and join!

WE NEED YOUR VOTE TO ENSURE THAT THE SALE OF THE FORMER BANK OF SCOTLAND BUILDING TO THE COMMUNITY GOES AHEAD!

Those living in the following post code areas will receive a postal ballot form in the next few days.

Meet the Board

Roselle Stead

"I have lived in this area for thirteen years and in Wigtown for nearly three years. It is a friendly welcoming town with the basic facilities for a good life. There are many activities and groups to join and walks with fantastic views to exercise on.

I joined the W & BCI shortly after it started because I wanted to help the town prosper and be a good forward thinking community  with advantages for all ages."
