Resending in case you missed this....

Hi, folks —

OutCasting turns 50 this month!  Of course, we mean 50 episodes, not 50 years <grin>.  But it's a milestone for us.  You'll remember that we increased to monthly production in the spring of 2017, and that's enabled us to bring a lot of fresh content to the airwaves (now 50+ public radio stations carry OutCasting — there's another 50!) and online at OutCastingMedia.org.

In just this past year, OutCasting has looked back on Stonewall and produced interviews on minority stress in the community, media coverage, non-binary gender, agender, gay parenting, and safe spaces.  And on OutCasting Overtime, our youth have commented on being outed by friends, the atrocities in Chechnya, hate crimes, having a stereotypically gay voice, the changing social status of homosexuality over the ages, and more.  I'm incredibly proud of the 50+ young LGBTQ people and straight allies (yet another 50!) who have have been members of the OutCasting team and talked so openly about their views and feelings since we began the program in 2011.

This month, OutCasting #50 concludes (for now) our exploration of intersex, a condition in which babies are born with a mix of male and female sex traits.  In our May and June programs, we interviewed two professors who are authorities on intersex and who are intersex themselves.  This month, we talk with Dominic Luke Wolf, an intersex youth who is also transgender.  OutCaster Andrea interviews Dominic in this fascinating conversation.  Listen here.

On this month's OutCasting Overtime, youth participants Lucas and Dhruv describe how YouTube has been tagging videos with transgender content as unsuitable for advertisers.  This has resulted in the demonetization of these videos and made them appear lower in search outputs.  Moreover, YouTube is allowing anti-LGBTQ ads from such groups as the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), designated as a hate group by the SPLC, to run as pre-rolls for transgender content, diluting the effectiveness of the videos and subjecting potentially vulnerable young people to anti-LGBTQ content while they are looking for affirming information.  Listen here.

And this month's OutCaster of the Month has Andrea interviewing Alex in a freewheeling conversation.  Listen here.

We hope you're enjoying the fresh youth-produced content we provide.  In celebration of our 50th episode — and the other 50s mentioned above — might you consider making a donation of $50?  Or if you're in a  position to do so, becoming a $50 a month sustaining supporter?  Or maybe $150 a month for each of the three 50s in OutCasting?

It's fast and easy to set up a monthly gift that will be automatically charged to your card every month, and having that steady stream of funding enables us to keep producing all the great content our youth create.  Be sure to select "I would like to make this a recurring donation" under Donation Preferences.

Media for the Public Good, which produces OutCasting, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.  We hope you support our mission of giving a national voice to LGBTQ youth, training a new generation of LGBTQ advocates, and contributing to our national discussion of LGBTQ issues with thoughtful, well-informed coverage.

As The Advocate noted:

"In-depth, well researched, and punchy in the right ways... NPR-level production values....  What makes all this remarkable is that most of the people working on the show... are barely old enough to drive."

Donate here!

And if you are an OutCasting supporter, you might check with your employer to see if they have a gift matching program.  Many do, and it's an easy way to double the value of your contribution.

Thanks!  All of us here at OutCasting hope you have a great summer.  Talk with you again next month.
