June 2018
Hey everyone,

It's the rare occasion that I'm sending a monthly newsletter out from Las Vegas, rather than my home in Israel, but all that means is that it's the most exciting time of the poker year! It's also the busiest, and thus the slight delay; so happy WSOP, everyone.😀

Anyhow, we were running full throttle in June, as we published a record (by far!) 26 articles. Anchoring that content was a 10-part miniseries reviewing PokerGO's original programming. Many of us poker fans have chosen to subscribe to the Netflix-style network for the live streams of prestigious poker event final tables, but they've also got some great, native poker series they've produced, which is very much worth checking out. Our miniseries was put together by a team of five contributing writers and sponsored by Professionalrakeback.com, whose support for which we are grateful.

In addition to our regular lifestyle features, op-eds, interviews, and strategy articles, our "Ask the Poker Experts" series continued as well, with this month's question featuring a special panel of past WSOP Main Event champions, including Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem, Scott Blumstein, and Jamie Gold!

On that note, if you've got a burning poker question you'd like answered by some of the game's top coaches, players, media personalities, tournament directors, or industry experts, just send me an email.

PODCAST NEWS: Aria Poker Room's Mike Williams

Along with my co-host Bruce Briggs, I had the great pleasure of interviewing Mike Williams, the Director of Poker Operations at Aria Poker Room in Las Vegas on PokerNews' Top Pair Home Game Poker Podcast.

A lifelong poker lover, Mike tells us about his roots in the game, his affinity for home games, and how Aria Las Vegas is a great venue not just for the high rollers, but also for the low rollers and home game enthusiasts. He's also got some great stories from his time working the poker rooms of Biloxi, Mississippi, that we know you'll love. If you haven't already done so, please have a listen!

"RUNNING WELL" 1,000 km charity poker challenge update!

We're halfway there as far as the calendar goes, with six months of 2018 in now the rear-view mirror, but we're unfortunately just slightly off pace, with 480km completed thus far of my 1,000km goal. It'll be a challenge keeping pace here in Las Vegas with the WSOP going on, but I'll do the best I can to run when I've got free time.

As a reminder, this year's beneficiary, Save a Child's Heart (SACH) aims to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children in developing countries. You can learn more about their amazing work in this short video.

We've been "stuck" at a total of $6,400 in pledges for a little while, and I'm still hoping to hit my 2018 goal of raising $10,000 for this wonderful organization. With many thanks, as always to my sponsors - Simcha Simon, Michael Pagano, Jaime Staples, Jan Fisher, and Ory Weiss, as well as corporate sponsors Run It Once, PokerStars, and Howtoplaypokerinfo.com - there's of course plenty more room for additional sponsors to join this charitable endeavor. So, if you or the company you work for would like to make a pledge (all monies donated directly by you), please email me.

As with last year's challenge, you're all invited to follow my progress via Twitter at #charitypoker1000km.

BLOG NEWS AND MORE VEGAS PLANS!

Over the next two weeks, you'll all see somewhat less poker blog activity than usual as I'll once again be working with the great team over at Poker PROductions on their Player Bio team during the WSOP Main Event. It's such a thrill to play a role in helping the broadcast come to life. In case you're curious about how things work behind-the-scenes of the most popular poker broadcast of the year, you're welcome to check out this article, which I penned last year.

While I'll be plenty busy in the Amazon Room at the Rio, you can always feel free to say hello if you see me walking around. And, of course, if you or someone you know is playing in the Main Event and would like to support Cardplayer Lifestyle by wearing a patch, I'd be honored and more than happy to give you one.

As always, your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is most welcome.

Thanks so much for your support and best of luck at and away from the tables!

The 2018 WiPHoF Ceremony: A Powerful Wake-up Call to the Poker Industry

Attending the 2018 Women in Poker Hall of Fame ceremony was an honor and a privilege. Beyond the event’s beauty and pageantry, however, was an underlying message that the poker industry needs to take to heart.

It’s time for us all to stop lamenting that there aren’t more women in our game, and to step up and start doing something practical about it. Let’s start putting the time, effort, and resources into making “wishful thinking” a reality to create a second, sustained poker boom.
