The global voice for science

We are now the International Science Council

We're delighted to announce that the ISSC has now merged with the International Council for Science (ICSU) to form the International Science Council (ISC), creating a single unified council to be the global voice for all the sciences.

The International Science Council (ISC) is a non-governmental organization with a unique global membership that brings together 40 international scientific unions and associations and over 140 national and regional scientific organizations including academies and research councils. It is the only international non-governmental organization bringing together the natural and social sciences and the largest global science organization of its kind.

You can visit our new website at www.council.science.

The decision to merge was voted by ICSU and ISSC members in October 2017. For more background on the merger, see here. Please see our new website for all the latest news from the International Science Council, and don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.

The launch of the International Science Council will be celebrated with an inaugural science event at the Maison des Océans in Paris, featuring leading thinkers including Craig Calhoun, Esther Duflo, Ismail Serageldin and Cedric Villani. Speakers will discuss the need for a voice for science in the contemporary world, and how to meet the Council's vision of science as a global public good.

Follow the livestream of our launch (9.00 – 18.00 CEST).
65 years of the ISSC
To mark this important moment in the ISSC’s 65-year long history a new publication has been produced to celebrate the legacy of the ISSC.

Opening with a foreword from ISSC President Alberto Martinelli, the publication highlights some of the key moments from the ISSC’s history, from its creation in 1952 and appointment of Claude Lévi-Strauss as first Secretary-General, to recent activities such as the World Social Science Fellows programme, the series of World Social Science Reports and Fora, and the Transformations to Sustainability programme.
