AUGUST 2018 UPDATE

All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 4:15

This month we are proud to announce the addition of support for Leah Diaz, missionary to Cuenca, Ecuador.  Leah is the Director of The April Project which she founded after the death of her mother (who suffered from Alcoholism).

Leah also serves as the director of Unsion Plus, an extension of Unsion Television.  Unsion Television, an Assemblies of God ministry, is currently the number one preferred network among all Cuencanos.  Unsion Plus is a place of response for those hurting in Cuenca city.  Through Compassion, Coaching, Connecting, and their Counseling Center people are finding hope, healing, and accepting Christ each day. God has called Leah to fight for the ALONE, ADDICTED, ABANDONED, & ABUSED.
Pray
  • Her heart's cry is to introduce Jesus to every last unreached people group within the Andes Mountains. She is believing God for at least 3 communities this next year to plant new churches, counseling centers, and The April Project.
  •
  • In 2019, The April Project will open a bakery and bread shop to provide resources, jobs, and a place of refuge for hundreds in our city. Please pray for a location, equipment, and the necessary resources needed.
  •
  • 9 of 10 Ecuadorian children are victims of sexual abuse. We are using specific curriculum, training, and summer programs to put an end to this tragic reality.
  •
  • Construction will begin on the very first church in Jima, Ecuador (Potential reach of 10,000). Teams, resources, and counseling materials are needed to complete this project. Suicide is a stronghold in this area. The Jiman people cannot see hope beyond their mountains, so we are bringing hope to them.
Western Africa Director's Highlights

The Ghana AG has planted over 1500 new churches in the last 4 years! This is the indigenous church principle at work.  If we plant the church right, it will reproduce itself whether we as Americans are involved or not.  Bravo to the Ghana AG!

The Burkina Faso AG has over 40 missionaries that they support serving outside the borders of Burkina Faso!!  This is one of the poorest nations on the planet!

The Togo AG now has over 2500 local churches!  Randy Tarr (AG West Africa Director) remembers, when he was a kid, there were less than 50!

With the help of the SoCal Network, the Liberia AG is now training more workers than ever before, believing to plant several hundred new churches before the end of 2020!

One of the keys to success has been the training of Africans to reach their own nations.  There are great things happening in West Africa but much remains to be done.

“We measure ourselves not by our success but by the unfinished task”

The PETTENGERS report from South Africa

They were asked to move from Durban, North KZN District, to Uvongo in the South KZN District to do two things. First, to train pastors and second, to build churches. 7 pastors will complete their studies by December and 6 church buildings will have been completed !
GTM

Is moving its headquarters to the Orlando area in Florida.
Florida is the state with the second largest veterans population with over 500,000 and growing. It also has two of the most respected military hospitals in the nation. And more importantly GTM can be more accessible to not only the wounded but also the “walking” wounded. The ones often suffering silently.

GTM has sold the Indy HQ and will close on August 22.  Keep them in prayer that they will find the right HeadQuarters & Home.  Like their current home, they want this to be a sanctuary for the wounded.  It needs to be handicap accessible with no stairs and wider doorways and halls.  Also, it should be a place for the veterans to bring their families as GTM grows in relationship with them.
UPDATE from the MILLERS

After completing language school in France and obtaining their VISAs, they found a home in Belgium, the center of Europe, where they are unpacked and settled.  Breathing in the familiarity of their pictures, beds (Praise God!) and other belongings has been refreshing.

They are just getting started with Convoy of Hope and God is already providing great relationships throughout Europe.
UPDATE from the WALENTS in Germany

Healthy churches lead people to Christ and grow!  One of the churches in the northern most Germany province of Schleswig-Holstein was averaging about 160 attendees for their Sunday morning services around the start of 2017.  The pastor along with the church leadership team were not satisfied with the status quo, so they decided to take part in Church Basics International (CBI) church transformation
training which started in their region the end of January 2017.  They had about 8 people from their church leadership team take part in the training.

During 2017 a few Iranian refugees started attending their church.  These folks started inviting their friends and fellow countrymen to this “Christian Church” where the people were kind, friendly, and very open to helping them.  During 2017 the pastor baptized about 96 new believers!   About 80 of these were Iranians!  They were having so many Iranians come to faith or show interest in faith in Christ that they started a parallel service to their Sunday morning service just for the refugees.

Steve Walent was able to attend one of these services in March of this year.  There were about 55 Iranians in attendance.  They were praising God with worship songs in their own language (Persian / Farsi).  A few workers (Germans) from the local church played the instruments and one of them preached as well.  On Good Friday the church baptized another 50 people - 42 Iranians, 4 Arabs and 4 Germans! Praise God for this fruit.

The Iranians go through an Alpha course in Persian and then start a discipleship process. The Pastor told Steve a few weeks ago that they are now having over 70 Iranians in their special service.  The church has grown so much in the past 18 months that they will start another service to accommodate the growth.  Most likely this will be an international service.  When leaders take on the challenge of change in order to fulfil the mission of Christ, the Spirit of God has the opportunity to do something new among them.  Praise God!
