Message from the Director...
Just a quick step outside and you know that we have made it to July in Ohio. As the summer heat beats down outside, the Summer Reading programs are in full swing at the Mercer County District Libraries. All four locations offer reading challenges and engaging programs for all ages, babies through adults. This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock” and all four of our library locations have been jammin’.
If you missed out so far, don’t worry there's still time to join the party, so visit your local Mercer County District Library location today! For times and details, check out the library’s website or any of the libraries’ facebook pages.
The Mercer County District Library is dedicated to providing timely and practical access to all forms of media by offering materials and services for residents of all ages for personal enrichment, enjoyment, and educational needs. We further support the educational needs of the community with adult programming as well as programs developed to stimulate children’s interests and appreciation for reading and learning. In order to continue this valuable level of service to our communities, the Mercer County District Library will again ask the community to renew the .5 mil operating levy this November. This is the second renewal of the 2009 levy originally placed on the ballot in 2009 to replace the 25 percent funding cut to the Public Library Fund by the State of Ohio in 2008.
We appreciate that voters supported the first renewal of the levy in 2013. The renewal we are asking voters to consider in November is unchanged at .5 mil and is projected to raise approximately $296,196 annually. Which means a home valued at $100,000 would cost a homeowner approximately $17.50 per year or $1.45 a month. The projected annual budget for the District Library System in 2018 is $1.14 million.
Mercer County District Library includes the school districts of Celina, Marion Local, and St. Henry, and the Village of Mendon. Our service population consists of 26,689 or about 65.5 percent of Mercer County. For a detailed fact sheet, visit our website.
As always, if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions, please share them with me.
