The Friendly and Fun Club

Greetings Members,

Bit of a busy newsletter this week, with plenty happening around our region so grab a cuppa and settle in!

The cooler weather hasn’t really arrived, (it hasn’t dropped below 10), so no excuses for staying in bed, get out there and join in the many things happening in the off season including:

Parkrun - these free timed 5km runs are held weekly on Saturday from 7am in Coffs Harbour at Park Beach reserve and in Urunga at the boardwalk. If you have not already register online first, print out your barcode and you are good to go!

XCountry - Woolgoolga Athletics Club host the Mid North Coast Cross Country Series (consisting of 2km, 5km and 10km timed races) each Sunday morning during winter at different locations around the region. You can find out more information on their website  or by following them on Facebook.

Presidents Report

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the Coffs Harbour Triathlon Club (CHTC) 2018/19 Season.

I'd like to send out a thank you to Sarah Rasborsek who was last year's club President. Unfortunately, Sarah has been out of action for a few months due to illness, and I hope she is fit and healthy and back to her old self soon.

We have some committed and talented volunteers on our committee again this year. I feel it is important that this group is continually changing to keep the club moving forward and progressing. On this note I would like to thank those who have put their hand up again this year and introduce you to the new members of the Committee:

Steve Thompson - Vice President
Peter Timothy - Race Director
Jennifer Williams - Secretary
Shaun Lawer - Volunteer Coordinator
Mick Booth - Handicapper
Chris Hodge - Sanctioning
Alice Williams - Publicity Officer
Emma Sutton  -  Uniform Coordinator
Sarvi Thompson - Social coordinator
Jan Rooney - Webmaster
Andrew Rowlings - Club Coach
Phil Benoit - Club Coach
Aaron Ruigrok - Gear Steward
Paul Courtney – Gear Steward
Cliff Lloyd - Historian

To me the CHTC serves as a much greater purpose than just racing - Community, Friendships and Family are a few things that come to mind.

I believe that the spirit and atmosphere at our races have set the bench mark for other clubs. Thanks to all the members who have signed up on Auto Renewal (113 of you). I look forward to seeing more memberships over the coming weeks.

Thank you also to all the Parents, Children, Day Racers, Sponsors and Supporters who also contribute to this great club.

I look forward to this exciting new season and to see you out there at our first club race on September 23rd.

Cheers,
Paul Herring
President

Members Survey

A huge thanks to those that took the time to do our recent club survey. It’s from here that the committee can act on your thoughts on the club and for the coming season.

The common theme was that we are a fun, social and friendly club, so that demonstrates that everyone supports and encourages each other, be it race day, or training. In particular, we have received some great comments from visitors singing our praises that we have a fantastic club that is very welcoming and supportive. Well done to you all.

Operationally, there was some really good constructive feedback. We will do our best to make the next season even better

Gold Coast Marathon

Congratulations to everyone that headed north to tackle the variety of running events at the Gold Coast Marathon. It’s always a great weekend. Some big training sessions paid off nicely with plenty of great results across the two days of running. Regardless of the event, you should all be chuffed at competing.

And when it comes to competing, what about this young fella pictured. Pete Woods, otherwise known as Ooroo Woodsey just ticked off his 20th Gold Coast Marathon, an amazing achievement, and he continues to pick off events year after year. The secret must be in his favourite saying - "train easy, taper hard."

Well done Pete and to everyone.

2018-19 Race Calendar

The committee have been working overtime to complete the upcoming seasons race calendar. Taking into consideration some of the feedback, we have included an extra ‘long course’ event in the first half of the season. This will also act as another closed transition training race, again, this was well received by members.

More importantly, we have devised this calendar so there is no clash with the newly formed North Coast Interclub Series. This means your membership gives you greater value as you do not miss any club races if you wish to compete.
You can view or download a copy of the 2018-19 calendar is on the club website.

North Coast Interclub Series

Our club (known as Coffs Harbour Rockets) is one six clubs to lock horns from up and down the North Coast, from as far south as Port Macquarie all the way up to Byron Bay in the north.

This division features an intriguing mix of clubs. Small and large, old and new.  The Hat Head Hammerheads and Byron Breakers are less than 12 months old and see the Interclub Series as a great way to grow triathlon in their local areas. They will be hoping that the buzz and energy that comes with a new club can keep them in the mix for Series honours as the season progresses.

On the other end of the spectrum are the Port Macquarie Pelicans and Coffs Harbour Rockets. Both clubs were established over 20 years ago and are two of NSW’s largest membership bases.

In the middle are Clarence Valley Stingrays and Ballina Seahorses, both well-established clubs looking to make a real name for themselves outside of their region.

Seven races will decide the Series, starting with the Ballina Triathlon in August 2018 and culminating at the Byron Bay Triathlon in May 2019.

Further information on the qualifying races at each event and the competition ladder can be found here.

To enter the series simply register through the event’s website and be an active Triathlon Australia member.

Rebel Sports

Just a reminder that if you do purchase any sports goods from Rebel Sports, please nominate our club as Rebel Sports will donate five per cent of each sale to the club. We can then use the credit to purchase race day giveaways during the season - everyone is a winner then!

Club Membership Auto Renewal

Membership is now available for the 2018/19 season. Some of you may have had auto-renewal, so you would have received an e-mail on Sunday about your membership being automatically renewed.

If you have the auto renewal switched off and want to join the club, go to our website and follow the prompts
Thank you to our Sponsors
Coffs Harbour Triathlon Club would not operate without the generous support of our sponsors
