Congress was AWESOME!

Well, that's WFH Congress done and dusted for another two years, and by all accounts it was the best one yet.

HFNZ had a good sized group involved, including president Deon York, staff members Nicky Hollings and Lynne Campbell, and members Te Whainoa Te Wiata, Karl Archibald, Tuatahi Pene, and Mahia Nightingale-Pene. There were also a number of members who attended under their own steam.

It's been fantastic to hear the many stories our people have returned home with; from getting a little lost in Glasgow, to whiskey tasting, to the fancy HFNZ dinner at the end. This year's Congress was certainly something that will live long in the memories of those who attended.

NZ was well represented at the many sessions, and also provided three posters, which were very well received. There will be a very thorough look at all the sessions attended by our people in the next issue of Bloodline, due out July 31.

Keep your eyes peeled!

Reminder: Midland Family Event & AGM

Just a quick reminder that Midland are holding a fun rock-climbing event this weekend at Rocktopia in Tauranga. This is an all-ages family event, and you can choose to climb, or just watch.

They'll also be running their AGM at this event. This is a really important opportunity for you to be a part of the decision making process. There will be some new committee members elected, and some new leaders of the Midland region stepping up.

It's well worth making the time, and the effort, if you're in the area on July 1.

Southern HQ farewell do

As you all know, HQ is moving from Christchurch to Wellington just as soon as we can find a building to buy there. The first part of that was shutting down the Christchurch office. The next part is having a bit of a do to remember all the great work done out of the various Christchurch HQs.

All of those who have contributed to HFNZ's success while we've been Chch-based are cordially invited to get together at Winnie Bagoes Christchurch on Saturday July 21 at 6:30pm. There will be pizza provided, and the opportunity to connect with members, and current/former staff who you haven't seen for a while. Deon will come down for the evening too.

The Southern Region are also planning to have their AGM immediately before the do, over the road at ARA. This is a great opportunity to participate in the governance of your Foundation, then reward yourself for your efforts with a bit of pizza and a chinwag with old friends.

Invitations will go out soon. In the meantime, if you're interested in attending either, or both, let us know at admin@haemophilia.org.nz

Joy's Farewell

While we're on the subject of farewells, Joy's went very well earlier this month. We had a very good turn out, and lot's of love was given and received. Here are some key images of the night...

Regional Children's Workshops

Unfortunately, due to a low uptake, these events have had to be cancelled.

The next event where your children can get some bleeding disorder education, and have heaps of fun with kids just like them, is likely to be the National Family Camp in 2019. This event is in the early stages of planning, and we'll let you know more as details become clearer. At this stage it's looking at being a late January affair, but we don't know much more than that.

Staffing Update

As you all know, we've recently lost two of our valuable Outreach Workers. Joy, from Midland, and Ali, from Southern both moved on to other opportunities in the first half of this year. Both roles have been advertised since.

The Southern role closed on June 17, and several very good candidates put their name forward. We have interviews on Monday July 2 for the five shortlisted candidates. That means a new Southern Outreach Worker is imminent, and judging by the quality of applications our Southern members will be very well supported indeed.

The Midland applications close on July 1. We already have some very strong candidates, and I'm sure there are still more to come. We expect to be shortlisting in the week beginning July 2, and interviewing the week beginning July 9. So, a new Midland Outreach Worker is on their way too.

We expect to have both roles filled by the beginning of August. In the meantime, Nicky is responding to Midland messages, and Richard is dealing with Southern. As usual, if you need to contact you Outreach Worker you can always use the 0508 FACTOR number.

HFNZ 60th Birthday Celebrations

HFNZ first came into being in 1958. That means that this year marks our 60th birthday! To celebrate staff and Council are planning a bit of a do.

It's early stages yet, but we're looking at either July or November 2019 in beautiful Wellington. We expect all sorts of people from HFNZ's past and present to attend, and are looking into venues, accommodation, and other logistical matters.

To help us with our planning we're interested in getting an idea from you about who might be interested in attending. This is a totally non-binding exercise, but those that pre-register may find themselves with early access to final registration, which could be helpful if numbers are limited.

To pre-register just drop us a line at admin@haemophilia.org.nz, telling us how many places you think you might want.
