HAPPENING THIS MONTH

Estonia's population is in continuous decline. That is why a host of NGOs and umbrella organisations from the private sector have put together suggestions and expectations for the political parties and the government. These include: prioritising population policy, setting clear focus points in policy documents, drawing up action plans in every branch of government, mandating a government office overarching the ministries to oversee the process and, finally, all political parties should put forward concrete plans for the 2019 elections addressing this problem.

What is the state of civil society in Estonia? What are the NGOs doing well, where are they lagging behind? Andrei Liimets discussed these questions with Kai Klandorf, the executive director of the Network of Estonian Nonprofit Organizations. Read the full interview here.

In 2015, the United Nations defined 17 SDGs or Sustainable Development Goals. An activist and opinion leader Kaupo Vipp writes why we need to rethink the concept of sustainability.

Speaking of sustainability, in a series introducing some of the NGOs working in Estonia, read about how the Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation seeks to make the world a better place.

Have a project in mind that would help build cooperation between the Visegrad countries - Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic - and/or other Eastern European countries? The Visegrad Fund has opened a call for innovative ideas to bring along positive change within the region.
