Regional Model Update

These newsletters are meant to keep all interested parties up to date on the progress of the new Regional Model setup.

This initial update is targeted to the Provost, Vice Chancellors of Admin and Research, Regional Associate Deans (RADs), Regional Directors (RDs) and Central Campus Offices.

UPDATE
The Regional Model continues to move forward over the past months.  As Regional Associate Dean, and Regional Director roles are filled, each region's set up follows suit.  

Regional Model Goals 
  1. To provide integrated service delivery
  2. To revitalize relationships between academic and administrative units
  3. To create a culture of continuous improvement
Region Startup Milestones
Region setup is in high gear.  The two key milestones for bringing up each region include:
  • Region Structure In Place 
    • RAD/RD Hiring - The Regional Associate Dean and Regional Director have been hired and started in their role
    • CSS Staffing - Central Support Staff have been assigned and have begun in their roles
  • Region Operational 
    • Governance & Communication Defined - The plan for managing the region and communicating issues, concerns, announcements, etc. has been achieved
    • Location Set Up - The location for support staff has been identified and established (interim or permanent)
    • Continuous Improvement Plan Approved - Any process changes or other known adjustments have been identified and planed for future implementation
Region Startup Progress
  • ERSO - Operational and planning the transition of 6 additional ORUs into the ERSO region (Karl van Bibber & Cynthia Weekley)
  • CHaMPS - RAD/RD Hiring Complete (Ron Cohen & Samantha Yee leaders).  CSS Staffing Complete. Governance & Communication Defined.  Location Setup in progress.  Process Refinements in progress
  • Bio Sciences - RAD/RD Hiring Complete (Rebecca Heald & Adam Berke). CSS Staffing in progress.
  • Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities - RAD Hiring in progress
  • Professional Schools - RAD & RD Hiring in progress
  • Region 6 - Leader in place (Peggy Huston). Further structuring in progress 
Next Steps
  • Finalize CSS Budget Allocation Model for FY2019
  • Refine & gain consensus on Regional Model governance structure & teams
  • Kick-off Regional Associate Dean team meetings
  • Solidify and define cross-region, functional sub-group teams (RA, HR, B&FS)
  • Determine how regular meetings of the RADs and RDs will play out
  • Define the next steps for for the RA E2E process improvement
  • Review high-level plan for the Research Support Portal and decide on priorities

Russ' primary role is supporting the RDs in bringing up their regions to operational mode
