Ngā Kaitiaki Mauri Updates

Kia hiwa ra kia hiwa ra!  Ngā mihi o te wā o Matariki kia koutou katoa. Ahakoa te kaha o Tāwhirimātea me te tino makariri o te wā, ko te tūmanako ka whai oranga koutou i raro i te maru o ngā Atua

Warm greetings from cold Pōneke to one and all.  Another busy month for NKM with much happening around the motu and on the political front with implications for all SV services, particularly kaupapa Māori agencies and kaimahi-ā-mahi-tūkino..

Kōrero mai, ka ora.  Safe to talk website

NKM's website working group met with Homecare Medical senior representatives on 7June during our recent Paetakawaenga hui in Te Whanganui-ā-Tara.  Thanks to those who provided their input and views for this hui.  Overall it was positive, with some robust kōrero and whakaaro shared, regarding the use of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and the need to avoid transliteration, i.e. "He pai ki te kōrero" is incorrect.  Our two Whāea provided the correct wording "Kōrero mai, ka ora".
Simple changes to improve the current webpage were covered. Development of content for whārangi Māori is ongoing.

Tikanga-ā-kaimahi or kaupapa Māori good practice guidelines

This important kaupapa remains a key priority for NKM, on behalf of the Māori sector to ensure protection of mātauranga that will be collected to inform these guidelines are at the forefront of ongoing negotiations with the Government. Mā te tika, mā te pono, ka taea tātou ki te taumata.

Kaupapa Māori workforce development/training

The ongoing karanga for the urgent need to develop and provide kaupapa Māori training for kaimahi-ā-mahi-tūkino resounded from all corners of the motu in our recent scan of KM services.  Key findings and recommendations regarding the urgency for government funding/resourcing of KM training and service expansion were clearly outlined in the report submitted to MSD in May. This remains a top priority for NKM. We are exploring options for development of interim training to build workforce capability in the Māori sector.

Matariki events

What's happening in your rohe? If you're in Te Whanganui-ā-Tara, head to the waterfront this Rāmere 29th Pipiri from 6-10pm for the Ahi Kaa Festival. Local school kapa haka rōpū, hāngi, stalls and a light festival are some of the many highlights.
