This newsletter will provide information on upcoming courses and programmes provided by Southside Community Training Network (SCTN), Southside Partnership and its hosted projects. We will also feature courses and events organised by other providers and community organisations in the county. This newsletter will be released on a monthly basis. At times we may release an extra edition with urgent new information.

Southside Community Training Network

Southside Community Training Network (SCTN), formerly Southside Partnership Training Network, is hosted and supported by Southside Partnership DLR and also receives support from the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Drug and Alcohol Task Force (DATF). The SCTN offers a a wide range of training opportunities, resources and technical supports which is available to those living and working within our target areas. Our Training Network is committed to working with individuals and groups to build their capacity and thereby to build stronger communities.

As part of this work, we engage closely with community groups and trainees in the design and review of our training programmes. We have a consultative approach to our work and are committed to providing quality, affordable training opportunities for our trainees. Our ethos includes Integrity, Passion, Service Excellence and Flexibility, all of which are ingrained in our day-to-day operations. Over the years these qualities have helped us become trusted partners with those we work with, providing them with the confidence in our ability to deliver quality training programmes.

Upcoming SCTN Courses
Southside Community Training Network is currently finalising its autumn training schedule, but here is some information on what will be included. The full schedule will be released in our July newsletter.
Community Development Course 

Are you working in the community and would like to upskill or are you interested in working in the community (DLR area)? Southside Community Training Network and Rosemount Family Resource Centre are collaborating to offer an 8-week course on Community Development. The course will run from Sept 20th 2018 until November 15th 2018 on Thursday mornings from 9.30am - 1pm at Rosemount Family Resource Centre in Dundrum. Read More.
GDPR Training

After our successful 'Introduction to GDPR' training in June 2018 Southside Community Training Network is currently working on new GDPR-related training sessions which will focus more on the implementation of the new regulations. We will release more details about this over the summer. 
safeTALK and ASIST Training


The SCTN is currently planning new dates for safeTALK Suicide Alertness training as well as ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) as part of our autumn programme. We have been successfully running these trainings in collaboration with the HSE since autumn 2017. Spunout.ie Courses


Southside Community Training Network is hoping to run a series of workshops in collaboration with Spunout.ie in autumn. Topics may include How to Engage with Young People Online, Online Safety and the Impact of Social Media on Mental Health. SpunOut.ie provides free, educational workshops and training sessions to the youth work sector for youth workers and volunteers. Find out more about SpunOut.ie here. Other Southside Partnership Courses and Events
FREE Employment Supports offered by Southside Local Employment Service



There are a number of employment supports available through Southside Local Employment Service including career guidance and support, CV and interview preparation and the Jobs Clubs. Please click on the flyer for full details.

The next 5-day Jobs Clubs focusing on CV and Interview Skills will be taking place from Aug 13th - 17th and then again from Aug 27th - 31st 2018 for five full days in Blackrock. Please contact 01 284 1977 for more details or to book a place. 
RePower Autumn Programme


The RePower Women's Programme is now recruiting for its autumn 2018 modules which include an ESOL QQI L4 course in English for Speakers of Other Languages, a Personal Development module, Basic Computers and Advanced Computer Skills. FREE Safe Pass Training 

Southside Partnership will be offering places on a FREE Safe Pass training to any candidates resident in DLR who qualify under the current Social Inclusion Community Activation Scheme (SICAP). Care of the Older Person QQI Level 5 - 1 place left!!


Southside Partnership at Ballybrack Project Centre in conjunction with DDL ETB will be offering a free Care of the Older Person course at QQI Level 5. There is only 1 place left on the course. Please contact Gina on 01 235 0778 for more information.
CV Skills 1-Day Bootcamp

Training & Events offered by other Organisations
Slow Tour! : dlr LexIcon Gallery

The Lexicon Library is organising a...Slow Tour! This is a free event and will take place on Saturday 30th June from 2.30 to 4pm in the Gallery, Level 3, dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire.
 
Artist Michelle Doyle will conduct this slowed down tour and conversation about the artworks. This event is designed especially for people learning English as a second language. Afterwards enjoy coffee and conversation in our Project Room. Please click here to register.

Adult Education Service Dun Laoghaire - Open Morning for Services

Non Violence Resistance (NVR) Programme

Ballyogan FRC in conjunction with TUSLA are currently enrolling participants for a FREE 8-week NVR parenting programme starting on Thursday 30th August 2018. The NVR Programme is suitable for any parent/carer who feels controlled, intimidated, or threatened by their child/teenager. It is also for any parent/carer who feels that they have to adapt their own behaviour because of threats or use of abuse or violence from their child or teenager.

The Wheel's Training Calendar

The Carmichael Centre's Autumn Training Schedule

The Carmichael Centre has published a comprehensive training schedule for autumn. Their courses include GDPR-related training, IT training, governance training and other relevant training for non-profits. Please click here for more information.
Funding available for Coding Events - Meet and Code

Meet and Code is a new project which aims to introduce children and young people aged eight to 24 to the world of technology and coding. The Meet and Code project is funding digital and coding events of all kinds during the EU Code Week (6-21 October 2018). These events are designed to show young people how much fun coding can be.
There are 25 grants of €500 each available to host such events. Please click here for more information.

Loughlinstown Training Centre currently offers a great variety of new accredited courses including Security and Guarding Skills, a Festival Management and Sound Production Traineeship and Local and National Tour Guiding. UCD Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

This Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Enterprise is awarded by University College Dublin and will enable you to explore and develop your career in new directions, potentially as an entrepreneur at the head of a new venture, or someone who is self-employed, or perhaps you simply want to develop the creative and entrepreneurial mindset that is increasingly sought by employers across all industries and sectors.

The unique design of our course combines creativity and design-based problem solving, participation in real-life team-based project challenges with industry partners and learn by doing from our highly experienced team and guest speakers from industry.

This part-time course runs 3 days a week (1 full day and two half days) for 12 weeks and is free for eligible job-seekers, homemakers and carers and offered at a significantly subsidised rate for those in employment via the Higher Education Authority Springboard+ initiative. Learn more...

Now that the new GDPR legislation has come into force, many organisations are still working on their full compliance. The Wheel has now produced a FREE GDPR Good Practice Guide together with Sytorus - a data specialist company. The guide can be downloaded here.
