PARTNERSHIP

“Poverty alleviation occurs when the power of Christ's resurrection reconciles our key relationships through the transformation of both individual lives and local, national, and international systems.”
― Brian FikkertWhen Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor . . . and Yourself

Partnership is the word that best sums up how we operate at OVCP. Partnerships that focus on respectfully and wholistically working together in an unhurried and empowering manner are what we strive for.

Local partnerships

“When we do for those in need what they have the capacity to do for themselves, we disempower them.”
― Robert D. LuptonToxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help

The key to our success as an organization rests on the Ugandans that are leading the way forward. As Paul shares in the video above, "Since we are from the community, we truly know and understand the struggles of the families we partner with".

Several years ago, we learned from our leaders on the ground that the term 'sponsorship' often takes on the connotation of a free handout in their community. They have seen families relinquish their role as caregiver and provider for their children. Sadly, this is often replaced with dependency upon the organization.

That is why we believe that partnership is so important. We want to bring together families in need around our community in Iganga. We must all be stakeholders in development, and the families we partner with must have ownership in working for and bringing about change in their community. We want to see the families we partner with empowered to fight for their children and communities. Watch in the video above to see more on what this looks like.

International partnerships

“The poor, no matter how destitute, have enormous untapped capacity; find it, be inspired by it, and build upon it.”
― Robert D. LuptonToxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help

At OVCP, we are so thankful for our international partners that are fueling development in Uganda. Thanks to our generous supporters, Ugandans have been given the chance to build up infrastructure and provide appropriate support in their own communities. Our international partners offer support in the form of donations, prayers, training, advocacy, media, networking and access to resources. This opens up doors for our vulnerable communities that never existed before. Our international partners enable OVCP to be a life-line, where previously there was none. Our international partners empower OVCP to not just keep children and families alive but to empower, educate, and equip them so that they will no longer need financial support.

This trip isn't the typical 'come and do for others' type. It is a 'come and see what happens when others are empowered to do for themselves' kind of trip.

From January 28th to February 11th, 2019 (these dates may change slightly as we get closer to booking flights), we would like to invite you to come on a Vision Trip to OVCP in Iganga, eastern Uganda. Don't just hear about our vision, come and see it in action! Whether you have partnered with us for years or just want to come and see what we are all about, we would love to have you!
