College Scholarship Funds Available
DeBows UMC has received monies to be used specifically for college scholarships in 2018.  These funds are available to church members and their immediate family.  If you are interested in receiving a portion of these funds, please respond to Sue Hayward with your name, email address, the college you will be attending, and what education related expenses will be covered.  Sue can be reached at jerseysue@outlook.com. All responses must be received by Wednesday, August 15, 2018.  All responses will be reviewed by committee and funds will be disbursed in September to qualifying applicants.
Looking for
Pop-Up Canopies
DeBows is looking to procure three 10x10 pop-up canopies to support some proposed outdoor events at the church.  If you or anyone you know would like to donate a new or gently used canopy, or would otherwise like to make a financial contribution toward purchase, please contact Sue Hayward in church or at jerseysue@outlook.com.
Worship Planner Calendar
For those participating in the Sunday Worship Service on a rotation basis as Usher, Lay Reader, or Communion Steward, please review the DeBows Worship Planner Calendar found on the church website. From the main menu: Calendars\DeBows Worship Planner.  Please verify which Sundays you are scheduled to participate and let Guy Raymond know if you are unable to be present on the assigned Sunday.  If possible, please arrange to switch with someone else in the rotation list if necessary.  This will help greatly with the weekly worship service planning process.  If you are not currently in the rotation, but would like to participate, please contact Guy. - Thank You

 Seeking

Housekeeping Job

Frances Hartley has been coming to our church for the past few months.  She is in need of housekeeping employment.  She is willing to work any hours at a very reasonable rate and will clean windows, scrub floors, etc.  She will need transportation and has no phone.  If you can use her services or know of someone who can use them, please contact her any Sunday before or after the worship service or contact Anita at 848-373-9304.

As a summer mission initiative, we have decided to support the Children’s Home Society of New Jersey’s “Formula for Hope” campaign.  To facilitate this, we are distributing empty baby bottles. If you wish to participate in this outreach program, please take one or more  bottles home and over the summer put loose change in them (or cash or checks).

Your spare change could mean the world to a baby in need. It will support over 50 life saving programs and services that CHSofNJ provides throughout New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.  It will make a meaningful difference in the lives of at-risk babies and children in our community.  Every penny counts, and even the smallest amount can make a BIG difference toward the mission of saving children’s lives and building healthy families.

We will collect the filled baby bottles soon after Labor Day and count the money.  The proceeds will be sent to the Children’s Home Society.  Thank you for your support of this outreach activity.  You may contact Anita at 848-373-9304 for more information.

The DeBows Prayer Shawl Ministry started in 2008. Since then, many people have donated their time and talents to create hand-knitted and crocheted shawls to give to those who need healing prayers and the warmth & comfort these shawls can provide. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to this ministry by making prayer shawls.

While we know some of these people quite well, there are many unnamed contributors that deserve our thanks and acknowledgement.  They may be related to members of our church family; mothers, mothers-in-law, sisters, aunts, friends, etc. If you know any of these unnamed contributors, please convey our heartfelt “Thanks”.  Without them, our Prayer Shawl Ministry would not have been able to touch the lives of so many in need.  God bless each and every one of them.

This is an on-going ministry and prayer shawls are collected throughout the year. The prayer shawls are distributed year-round to members of our faith community that are in need of prayer and during the Advent season when the church visits shut-ins and area Nursing Homes.

The need for prayer shawls is continuous and finished shawls may be given to any church member or dropped off at the church.  You can find patterns and other information concerning how to make a prayer shawl at www.shawlministry.com.

Again, many thanks to those who have participated in this ministry.

If you are looking for an easy way to make your financial contributions or to otherwise stay connected while you are away on vacation, we invite you to support the ministries and programs of DeBows UMC by using our online giving option found on the church website at www.debowsumc.org.

Just click on the “Online Giving” button found in the church website footer.  This will permit you to donate online using the church’s secure PayPal account and your credit card.  You do not need to have a personal PayPal account to participate.  As always, donations to the church are tax deductible and will be reflected in your year-end giving statement from DeBows UMC.  Thank you for your faithful support.
DeBows UMC
2nd & 4th Monday Each Month

The DeBows Food Pantry is a tangible and meaningful way we share God’s love with our community.  It is open the 2nd & 4th Monday each month from 6:00-8:00pm.  If you would like to volunteer time to support this ministry, please see the sign-up sheet outside of Fellowship Hall.  You may contact Deb Cregle for more information.

Also, Pastor Denise has informed us that Pleasant Grove UMC, who have been sending their food collections to the Jackson Food Bank, will now send them to the DeBows Food Pantry going forward.

The next Food Pantry distribution is Monday, July 23.

Grocery Shopping Cards

Every week during Fellowship Time, you have the opportunity to purchase grocery store shopping cards for either Shoprite or Stop & Shop.  This is a convenient way to pay for the food you buy at the grocery store and at the same time support the ministries of DeBows UMC.  The church makes 5% of all shopping cards sold. You may see Sue Hayward or Marilyn Allerton to purchase the shopping cards on any Sunday.
