Prayers for the NHS

The Most Rev Mark Strange, Bishop of Moray, Ross & Caithness and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says “As we celebrate 70 years of the National Health Service (NHS) I ask that you pray for those whose service allows it to operate for the benefit of all, free at the point of use… For Doctors, Nurses, Administration and Support Staff and for Hospital Chaplains. I ask you to pray for all those who have been, and are being, treated by the NHS and for those whose responsibility it is to safeguard the NHS for the future… For politicians and voters, that they may continue to recognise the vast influence the NHS has in our communities.

“I ask you to pray for the NHS as an example of the good that society can offer when we all contribute to the health and wellbeing of each other.”

Tickets on sale for Pilgrimage: Contemporary Approaches to Faith, Heritage and the Issues of the Our Times

21 September at St Margaret of Scotland, Aberdeen

The Rev Professor David Atkinson, Convener of the Church in Society Committee of the Scottish Episcopal Church (CiS) says: “At General Synod 2018 we heard mixed messages about the health of our Churches. Numbers recorded for traditional Sunday worship continue to decline across much, but not all, of Scotland. However There have been many fresh expressions of activity which would not have been counted in the last Scottish Churches census. These include groups from within our churches who meet on days other than Sundays and sometimes in formats other than traditional worship.

"One of the significant areas of growth has been that of pilgrimage. Pilgrimage covers a wide range of activities ranging from those spending two or more weeks on El Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) in Spain though to organised and informal events within a single day. Pilgrimage can be connecting with our history and heritage by visiting sites with particular spiritual connections. Increasingly it is about making the link to creation and to the environment; reflecting on all God has done for us.

"To explore both of these developments, the CiS has organised a conference on the subject of pilgrimage which will be held on 21 September in Aberdeen. A morning session will celebrate what pilgrimage has meant to us in the past and its role in forming our Church as it now is. An afternoon session will explore where pilgrimage could take us in the future. Booking for the conference is now open through Eventbrite and on the Scottish Episcopal Church Facebook Page. There is a small charge for attendance which will cover the cost of lunch”
