Welcome to the new format of the Festival Focus. This format is intended to draw you to our website with details of each article. We hope that you enjoy reading our newsletter.

2018 Provincial Finals


Fraser Krips (percussion) is the winner of the prestigious Sister Geraldine Boyle Gold Award for the most outstanding performance of the Senior Grand Awards Competition. The award of $1,000 was presented by Joanne Messer, donor. The Wallis Silver Award was won by Thomas Hu (piano) and the Blanche Squires Memorial Bronze Award went to Dominic Ghiglione (trombone).

Nearly 300 participants from Saskatchewan's 47 District Music Festivals were heard by seven judges. Choral entries were submitted by recording and judged prior to the weekend competition. On Friday evening, June 1, intermediate competitors chosen from each discipline competed in the Intermediate Grand Awards Competition. On Saturday evening, June 2, senior competitors chosen from each discipline competed in the Senior Grand Awards Competition. Prizes of over $25,000 were awarded over the weekend. National Music Festival - August 14 to 16, Sackville, NB

Campbell Chamber Choir, Regina (Russ & Deidre Baird, conductors) successfully advanced from the Provincial Level of Nationals and will compete in the Paul J. Bourret Choral Competition, judged by recording.

The Federation of Canadian Music Festivals (FCMF) National Music Festival will take place at Mount Allison University in August. We are proud to announce the members of Team Saskatchewan! More information can be found at fcmf.org.

SMFA Fall Conference & Annual General Meeting



Mark your calendars for the Annual Fall Conference & AGM at the Canalta Inn and Kerry Vickar Centre in Melfort, October 26 & 27. Visit our website at http://smfa.ca/ for more information.

At our last AGM, SMFA announced plans to launch a fundraiser to host the National Music Festival in August 2019. The following notice of motion is in support of the Car Lottery Fundraiser. SMFA will purchase a car to raffle and we are asking for support from the District Festivals.
Notice of Motion - RE: SMFA Car Lottery Fundraiser: Each District Festival will sell 2 books of 12 tickets each ($480).
Note: There are two (three-year) positions available on the SMFA Board of Directors. Consider running for one of these two positions. Contact Karen MacCallum (SMFA Past President and Nominating Chair) for more details at karenmaccallum@sasktel.net
