Discover the Master classes of the XVI Triple Helix International Conference 2018

The XVI THC2018 this year has a rich programme featuring a series of inspiring Master Classes  and an Opening Roundtable that you cannot  miss!

Oxford Road Corridor Master Class (Wednesday 5 September, 10:00 – 16:00)
The Oxford Road Corridor is a dense Innovation District which is currently undergoing a significant amount of investment, with Enterprise Zone status in place to encourage further growth. The Partnership, established as a company Limited by Guarantee in 2007, has evolved over a period of time through the interactions between universities, industry and government. Many of the assets within the Oxford Road Corridor area have gained international recognition and include higher education institutions, cultural venues, digital infrastructure projects and research and development facilities.

Triple Helix Master Class (Wednesday 5 September, 14:00 – 16:00)
University-industry-government relations can be considered as evolving as a Triple Helix (TH). The different stakeholders have each their own societal tasks and missions but can also take the roles of each other. Universities nowadays both patent and publish; governments act as venture capitalists and firms run company universities. The Triple Helix model can be elaborated at the institutional level, for example, in terms of academic entrepreneurship and industry’s role in organizing higher education. One of the objectives of TH practices is to construct competitive advantages, development, and innovation strategies. The key to the Triple Helix is the creation of collaborative projects and hybrid organizations to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship, typically at the initiative of a Regional Innovation Organizer (RIO) an individual or organization respected by all.  This can be expected to vary among countries and regions. Synergies in TH relations among wealth generation, novelty production, and legislation and regulation can be studied both in-depth and comparatively using, for example, the TH indicator of mutual information in three dimensions.

Arts and Health Master Class (Wednesday 5 September, 14:00 – 16:00)
A unique opportunity to explore the complex and rich relationship between arts, culture and heritage – and their potential to influence health and social change. This master-class all takes place in the city that gave birth to the Arts & Health movement – Manchester. Led by Director of Arts for Health – Clive Parkinson – and co-facilitated by a rich range of people whose work has informed policy, driven cultural change and inspired new thinking, this masterclass will equip participants to better understand the potential of arts participation to promote health, prevent ill-health and inspire social change. With input from the UK, Japan and Australia and a focus across the life course, this master-class is a one-off opportunity to be inspired and equipped to take home new ways of thinking about public health.

Digital health care innovation: the power of Triple Helix Partnerships Master Class (Wed 5 September, 11.00-15.10) (soon to be announced)
The power of partnerships is seen as a promising solution to many problems of today’s healthcare systems such as the mismatch between supply and demand; the disconnect between health and social care; and the slow pace of digital healthcare innovation. The Master Class will focus on how health, social care industry and academia can come together to harness to power of data and analytics to learn from every patient and feed the knowledge of ‘what works best’ back to clinicians, public health professionals, patients and other stakeholders to create cycles of continuous improvement.

Triple Helix Opening Roundtable Panel: Powering Strategies for Innovation – Perspectives from North West England (Wednesday 5 September, 16:15-17:45)
The North West of England is an exciting laboratory of collaborative initiatives, which will power the Fourth Industrial Revolution in one of Europe’s most prominent clusters for advanced manufacturing, knowledge-based services, and research and education. In a roundtable discussion, organised by the North West Business Leadership Team, leaders from universities, business, and business development organizations in North West England will discuss insights from these initiatives, and respond to audience questions.
