Tour de CLARIN: Interview with Dr Radim Hladíkz
Tour de CLARIN highlights prominent User Involvement activities of a particular CLARIN national consortium. This time the focus is on the Czech Republic and Dr Radim Hladík, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Philosophy at Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague and at the National Institute of Informatics in Japan. Dr. Radim Hladík was interviewed via skype by Jakob Lenardič (Assistant to Darja Fišer, Director for User Involvement CLARIN ERIC).

Report on the CLARIN DELAD workshop
DELAD (which means SHARED in Swedish) is an initiative to establish a digital archive of disordered speech and share this with interested researchers.
DELAD was initiated by Martin Ball from Linköping University. In October 2015 and June 2016 workshops were held in which selected researchers and data curation specialists discussed relevant issues in setting up such an archive, how to link the initiative to existing resource infrastructures such as CLARIN, and how to find funding to implement the archive.
A third workshop (a CLARIN Type I workshop) was held on 15-17 November 2017 in Cork, Ireland, and brought together a selected group of experts in language disorders research and corpora of disordered speech to set-up a plan to collect existing and new corpora and to include these in the CLARIN infrastructure.

The ERCC - A CLARIN Centre in South Tyrol

The Eurac Research CLARIN Centre (ERCC) has recently joined the ever growing number of CLARIN centres. It is the second centre within CLARIN-IT. The particularity of the ERCC is a strong regional focus, whereas the ILC4CLARIN in Pisa takes on a more general role as the national coordinator of CLARIN-IT.
ERCC is run by the Institute for Applied Linguistics of Eurac Research, situated in Bolzano, South Tyrol, right in the heart of the Dolomites. Thanks to this location, the group has a strong research focus on the local multilingualism. In South Tyrol not only Italian and German, but also the smaller Ladin language are all recognized as official languages of the province, interact with each other in a lot of interesting ways, and create particular demands like multilingual legal and administrative terminology. approaches to teaching in multilingual environments, etc. Read more
CORLI Workshop on complex corpora
On May 25th, the French consortium CORLI (CORpus, Langues Interaction) held a successful full-day workshop entitled ‘Treatment and standardisation of multimodal and web 2.0 corpora’. The day was dedicated to Professor Thierry Chanier who recently retired and who played a key role within both the Written Corpora consortium (2011-2015) and the CORLI consortium (2016-).
The study day focused on complex corpora and was divided into two sessions around two themes which were both central to Thierry’s work: Corpora in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) corpora. A lunchtime poster session allowed colleagues who had recently benefited from grants to help them discuss their work. The workshop brought together European researchers involved in the Mulce and ISMAEL LEarning and TEaching Corpora projects, as well as colleagues involved in the CoMeRe project.

ParlaCLARIN@LREC2018
At the 11th Language Resources and Evaluation Conference (LREC), the CLARIN team organised the successful full-day ParlaCLARIN workshop. The videos of the workshop are now available via our VideoLectures channel.
The workshop brought together researchers and practitioners who work with parliamentary data in different languages on diverse research questions. A keynote talk by professor Cornelia Ilie, oral presentations of 15 papers, and a vivid panel discussion all contributed to confirming the viability of this research direction, and its high potential for further collaboration.

The Conference on Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) and Social Media Corpora will take place at the University of Antwerp, Belgium.
This is the 6th annual conference in a series dedicated to the collection, annotation, processing and exploitation of corpora of computer-mediated communication (CMC) and social media for research in the humanities. The conference brings together language-centered research on CMC and social media in linguistics, philologies, communication sciences, media and social sciences with research questions from the fields of corpus and computational linguistics, language technology, text technology, and machine learning.

The 2018 Adam Kilgarriff Memorial Hike

In memory of their dear colleague and inspiring friend Adam Kilgarriff, the Slovene Language Technologies Society invites Euralex participants to join a beautiful hike to the Slovenian Alps.
In July 2014 Adam and his colleagues at the Slovene Technology Language Society hiked to the summit of Grintovec (2558 m), a strenuous hike even for experienced mountaineers. Adam climbed it in his sandals. Not only did he reach the summit first, he also offered to carry his colleagues backpacks!
The 5th anniversary of the last hike with Adam coincides with The Euralex Conference in Ljubljana.

Proposals for courses and workshops are invited in all areas of Logic, Linguistics and Computing Sciences. Cross-disciplinary and innovative topics are particularly encouraged. ESSLLI 2019 will take place at the University of Latvia in Riga, Latvia.

Then the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB), National Library of the Netherlands is looking for you!
The KB is seeking proposals for its fully paid Researcher-in-residence program in 2019. This program offers a unique chance for early career researchers of all disciplines to work in the library with the Digital Scholarship team and KB data. In return, we learn how researchers use the data of the KB, what kinds of possibilities it offers and how we can improve our services.
There is room for two six-month projects in 2019. Deadline for applications: 30 September 2018.
