Marty's Message

In higher education we spend a great deal of energy looking ahead to the future – and rightfully so. However, spending time with Jim and Lorrie Neale reminded me of how important it is to also take time to remember the past. It was fun for me to hear stories of Oscar Neale; of campus life in the early to mid-1900s; of exploring the underground tunnels that ran between Old Main and Nelson Hall, and of the escapades of his grandson Jim.

The Neales’ gift honors the history of Oscar Neale who taught and served as the Director of Rural Education in the Stevens Point Normal School from 1917 until his retirement in 1944. We now have a residence hall named for him!

Jim and Lorrie Neale represent the best in generosity. Their fellowship helps us remember our past, build for the future, and truly does touch people’s lives.
