The 1st Battalion,
102nd Infantry of the Connecticut Army National Guard was called to duty most recently to Afghanistan in 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During this tour, on 25 May 2010, SSG Edwin Rivera was killed in action.
For those lucky enough to have known Edwin, they indeed know that he was much more than a Professional Leader. He was a loving friend, brother, son, a loving husband to his wife Yesenia and father to their two children, Rolando and Lorenzo.
After SSG Rivera's passing, The SSG Edwin Rivera Children's Fund was established through Chelsea Groton Bank. All donations and proceeds of this year's event will benefit the Fund.
