Yes, we realize you've already gotten this email from us. But, in the original version there was an  error in the recap of the Southern Fried Smackdown Region Tournament. Atlanta defeated Nashville 126-66. Errors have been corrected in this edition.

If you're interested in the Atlanta Rollergirls, whether it's being a part of our league or just meeting the athletes that make up our five teams, then you're in luck! On October 18th, we're hosting a Skate Party!  Come one, come all, young or old, girl or boy. Bring your family! Bring your friends! Step right up! Rent a pair of quad skates, and hit the rink with us!

Don't worry, we'll leave our pads and helmets at home -- because derby girls don't ALWAYS like to hit when we're on skates.  We also love the Hokey Pokey and couple's skate. We're hoping that you do too!

Be there or be a square:

ARG Skate Party
Date: Oct 18th
Time: 4-6pm
Location:  All-American Skating Center in Stone Mountain (Directions)
Admission: $5

On October 2nd Fox Searchlight released a movie that is changing the world of DIY roller derby forever:  Whip It.

This directorial debut of Drew Barrymore stars Ellen Page (Juno) as Bliss, a rebellious Texas teen who throws in her small town beauty pageant crown for the rowdy world of roller derby. Other stars in the movie include Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River, Pollock), Eve and Juliette Lewis (Old School).  It's a coming of age story about falling in love with roller derby, being on a team with other women, and most of all, being your own hero.  Each of the Atlanta Rollergirls can tell you their own personal version of this exact story!
This film has had heavy interaction with real live derby leagues from across the nation including the Detroit Derby Girls, the LA Derby Dolls, the Texas Lonestar Rollergirls, and the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls.  In fact, Atlanta's own All-Star, Sk8 Outta Compton, served as Eve's stunt double for the entire movie!  If you watch close enough, you should be able to see some of her signature knock-out hits on the track! If you missed the South Central Regional Tournament hosted here in Atlanta by your own Atlanta Rollergirls, you missed some of the hardest hitting action ever to take place in the South! Ten teams from the South Central Region battled for three days to determine the top three teams who would advance to Nationals. The #1 seeded Texecutioners, of Austin's Texas Rollergirls, continued to dominate the Region. After huge wins over the Nashville Rollergirls and the Dallas Derby Devils in early round play, the Texecutioners battled the Kansas City Roller Warriors and won 153-70. Kansas City took second place.

In other tournament action #3 Houston Roller Derby took third place after coming back from a 27-point deficit to beat #4 seed Dallas Derby Devils 113-101. Dallas battled our own Atlanta Rollergirls earlier in the tournament for the #4 spot, winning 122-91.

Atlanta went on clinch their 5th place ranking, beating Memphis 190-77 and local rivals Nashville, 126-66.

Advancing to Nationals in Philadelphia, November 13-15, 2009:
(1) Texas Rollergirls
(2) Kansas City Roller Warriors
(3) Houston Roller Derby
