Weekend Retreat
October 14 - 16, 2011 - Minneapolis, MN
What: Vajrasattva Weekend Meditation Retreat
When: October 14 - 16, 2011, Friday Talk: 7:00 - 9:00 PM; Saturday/Sunday Teachings: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Where: House of Prayer in the City (next to St. Mark’s; across the street from the Walker Art Museum)
425 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis, Minnesota
Topic: Teachings on how to practice purification via the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva from “Illuminating the Excellent Path to Omniscience: Notes on the Longchen Nyingtik Ngöndro” by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. Vajrasattva practice is the third inner preliminary that allows us to purify past negative actions, obscurations, and habitual tendencies that are the main obstacles to growing and developing along the spiritual path to enlightenment. It is very important to diminish our obscurations so that realization can arise. To purify our negative actions completely, we rely on the four powers that are part of the Vajrasattva practice. The Buddha taught many methods of purification, but the best method is to meditate on Vajrasattva. Retreat includes reading transmission, alternating periods of guided meditation and teachings, breaks for lunch and tea, and a concluding tsok feast on Sunday. OM VAJRASATTVA HUM
All are welcome to attend this retreat. Register by calling Mary MacEachen at 612-568-7880. Cost of retreat is $195. Includes vegetarian lunch and tea during breaks.

Kamalashila was the main disciple of the great abbot Shantarakshita, who helped establish Buddhism in Tibet in the 8th century. Kamalashila won the great debate at Samye that took place around 846 AD, thereby ensuring that Tibetans followed the Indian tradition of Madhyamika (Middle Way) that had flourished at the great Nalanda Monastery in India. His most famous writings are the three texts titled "Stages of Meditation" that are the fundamental texts for the study and practice of shamatha and vipashyana in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
The text "Stages of Meditation" for this class will be available for sale at the teachings. You may also purchase it online.
