Autumn Update

Firstly: LAST CALL FOR FARROW & BALL!
Those revered suppliers of everyone's favourite paint are giving a talk here in the morning (Tuesday). It's free and it's going to be well-attended. Details are below. You are very welcome to come along. If you make it in the morning or not, next time you come to LASSCO Three Pigeons you'll see we've been busy in the shop:

Bronze Doors

Our evolving stock of Bronze entrance doors has a new, and spectacular addition: The bronze front doors to The Morris Singer Foundry of 1931.

Morris Singer Bronze Doors Morris Singer Bronze Doors detail

Morris Singer were responsible for an astonishing amount of bronze public statuary and architectural sculpture from Victorian times, and through both World Wars - by which point they were casting the work of Moore and Hepworth. An expanded history of these doors and the Morris Singer foundry can be found here, including a very long List of Works. You might remember the massive bronze doors we sold last year salvaged from the Barclays City of London HQ and pictured in a previous eNewsletter - they were also cast at the Morris Singer Foundry.

Clearances Arriving Daily
Don't feel that we only deal in high-value, historically important finds. We haven't forgotten our roots! Our "Door Store" is currently crammed with every conceivable type of reclaimed door - from the lowly to the impressive ... and door-knobs too (lovely run of reclaimed beehive knobs from a beautiful house in Oxford has just come in). We couldn't resist the useful clearance of hundreds of solid beechwood work-tops from Goldsmiths College. Currently we're well stocked with railings too.

Beechwood worktops

Dealing in Yorkstone has become a vibrant part of our dealings here at The Three Pigeons; we are turning over glorious consignments of this characterful paving to enthusiastic landscapers and gardeners - the trick is to get the good stuff. You must see it to see how marvellous it is!

Upcycling - from Prison Bars to Wine Bars

Prison Doors ex Norwich Warehouse Mirror Frames

Industrial Chic has a new sub-category: "Prison Chic"! Not only do we offer renovated and polished cell-doors but we can complete the scheme with cast-iron prison windows glazed as mirrors. They join the "Hi-Voltage Insulator Bar Stool" and "Tate Britain Marble Cheese-boards" (a must for Christmas!) and our other Warehouse Window mirrors. The boys in the workshop have these upcycling techniques down to a fine art.

Staff Favourites
A new feature on LASSCO eNewsletters! These Staff Picks are fresh in, they're not even on-line yet.

Tom:
Stone Capitals by E.W.Pugin
Tom is rather taken with the pile of small and crisply carved stone capitals that we bought last week. We know them to be by E.W.Pugin for a Reredos panel. Edward Welby Pugin was eldest son of A.W.N. Pugin and we think these may have come from a church in Warwick (to be confirmed).

Amanda:
Stained Glass
Amanda is enthused by the stained glass fragments that we've been hanging in the windows of the shop. A tweet from the BBC newsreader Huw Edwards has confirmed that his doppleganger portrait of a Belgian bishop was purely a co-incidence (he thought it looked more like Michael Aspel anyway).

Ant:
African metalwork lantern
Ant is chuffed to have bought the strange and rather wonderful wrought iron oil lantern. The current thinking is that it originates from Mali and was probably made in the early 20th Century in the Timbuktu area by Dogon or Bamana metalworkers - research continues (as does the photography!).

Events
Our Series of "Luminaries at LASSCO" continues:

Canton Tea Company
