Music with a MissionMWAM
Fireflight raises the energy level of the audience as they take the stage of Newton Hobson Auditorium during the Music With A Mission concert event at Southern Wesleyan University in Central. The Music With A Mission Tour came to Southern Wesleyan Sept. 29, also featuring Hawk Nelson and Superchick. The concert tour, which benefits Compassion International, continues into October with shows in several states.



Southern Wesleyan University’s golf tournament Oct. 17
The P.B. Wood Golf Tournament will tee off Oct. 17 at Pickens Country Club with golf, food, prizes, fellowship and fun – all for the benefit of scholarships, academic and student programs at Southern Wesleyan University. Read more >>

Welcome to SWU!
Please join us in welcoming Carol Marrell, who has been hired effective October 1 as data specialist for the School of Education. Carol received her BS in parks, recreation and tourism management from Clemson University and gained significant experience designing, testing and maintaining databases, and analyzing data and developing reports while employed at Clemson University as a data coordinator and information resource coordinator. Most recently she was employed as an administrative assistant for the guardian ad litem program in Anderson.

Holiday schedule
In case you missed this information in recent issues of SWU News, we want to remind you of the holiday breaks coming up for 12-month employees. Faculty will generally follow the academic calendar available here.

  • Thanksgiving:  Thursday, Nov. 24 through Friday, Nov. 25; university offices will reopen on Monday, Nov. 28.
  • Christmas/New Year’s:  Thursday, Dec. 22 through Monday, Jan. 2; university offices will close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21 and offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

SWU Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
Each year Southern Wesleyan University is required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act in the Higher Education Opportunity Act (Public Law 110-315) to distribute the crime statistics for the previous three years as well as policies related to the security of our campus. SWU is also required to disclose the Annual Fire Safety Report. The brochure, named “Annual Security and Fire Safety Report Central Campus,” details the statistics, policies and procedures as required by law.

News from Health Services
Dr. Beacham will not be in the Health Center next week due to Fall Break. The Health Center will be open Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. 




Wizard of Oz Auditions
Auditions will be taking place Oct. 28 for “Wizard of Oz.” The auditions are open to any interested students. Also, if you are a faculty member with a child at least five years old and under 4’10”, Dr. Melanie Rowell is looking for munchkins. Read more >>


Professors to attend Free Market Forum
Two Southern Wesleyan University business professors, Phil Jeon and Charlie Williams, have been selected to receive an all-expense paid professional development opportunity, the 2011 Free Market Forum, cosponsored by the Center for the Study of Monetary Systems and Free Enterprise at Hillsdale College (Michigan), in conjunction with the Acton Institute and the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). Jeon and Williams are also eligible to apply for research grants in the area of free market economics. The 2011 Free Market Forum will be in Atlanta Oct. 27-28.
