News from the Director's Desk - Police Veil Powers
This week ECCV responds to the Herald Sun article about the police powers to demand women remove their veils. ECCV welcomes the State Government decision not to change the Crimes Act in relation to veils. We support individual religious freedom but we expect veiled Muslim women to comply with police requests to identify themselves.
Victoria Police and the ECCV work together to ensure police understand religious diversity. Special laws are not necessary for them to do their jobs.
