I just want to apologise for the long delay between newsletters.  The computer crash, followed by a very nasty ear infection during July, floored me for a good few weeks.  Before I knew it, the holidays were upon us, and we all know what that means......

I always use summer as a time for reflection, for regrouping and planning. I can't believe that last summer holidays I was sitting thinking about whether or not to take over Motivating Mum, trying to get to grips with Twitter, and wondering how I would be received as a complete stranger in charge of an established website.  It's amazing the wonderful things that can happen in a year and I'd like to thank you all for sticking with me..

This summer I haven't been idle either.  If you look around the site, you will see a major upgrade of the forum, and I would urge you all to take a look. You will also see some serious changes (I hope improvements) over at the blog in the next few weeks.  I hope you will enjoy it and I look forward to hearing your feedback.

We are planning to expand our events in the three Cupcake venues - Putney, Parsons Green and Earlsfield, and setting up events in Beckenham and Bromley. We have two new faces in Chiswick, Jill and Kate, who are taking over from the ever talented Katie and Caroline.   We have also opened our first major franchise outside London - a big welcome to Margaret Totten, who has started running Motivating Mum events in Glasgow.

I am talking to a few people about starting up events in yet more locations as well, so hopefully I will be able to bring you good news on that very soon. If you fancy hosting some Motivating Mum events where you are, then please reply to this email and let me know.  the next year is looking very exciting - its a great year to come on board with us.

After the Crash

Most of you will know that I suffered a fairly major computer failure at the beginning of July.  For a few days I had no access to email at all, and I have lost a significant amount of my previous conversations with you all.  I just wanted to say a big thankyou to all of you for bearing with me, and especially to those who offered concrete and useful suggestions as to how I could prevent such a catastrophe from happening again.

However I know that some things I was working on, and conversations I was in the middle of are gone for ever.  If any of you have recently contacted me about anything, and have not heard back tin the last few months, do please send your emails again.  I'm not ignoring you deliberately - I've probably just lost your details.

The good news is, I now have a new laptop, and I am slowly working my way through setting up various "cloud" solutions, to make sure that all my data will be safe and accessible from anywhere in the future.  I wil be sharing my discoveries in a series of blog posts and possibly even a workshop in the autumn.

Competition - Who Loves Me

Lucy Morley from Who Loves Me? posted in the forum under What are You Excited About? last month.  She was shortlisted in the Loved By Parents Awards and wanted to ask Motivating Mum readers to vote for her.  Well I'm very happy to report that Who Loves Me? won all three categories in which it was listed.  To say thank you to Motivating Mum readers, Lucy is offering one pack of 8 Who Loves Me cards, as a prize.  To enter this draw, please hop on over to the new Motivating Mum forum.  Tell us What are you excited about? and put a post or reply in one other area of the forum. The prizewinner will be notified in next month's newsletter.

Upcoming Features

I'm going to be running some special feature months on Motivating Mum.  Each month I want to focus on a group of mums who run a specific type of business.  I will be running Articles and Features, Guest Blogs and also offering free advertising to these businessmums. My aim is to show other mums what is involved in these businesses, and give support and information to those who are thinking of starting out, but it will also enable the mums who are running the businesses to show what they've got, so (if I dare say it already) you want to do some early Christmas shopping then this could be the place to come.

If your business fits into one of these categories, and you would like to be featured in one of my Feature Months, then please get in touch with me for some more information.

October:  Franchise Businesses, Distributorship Businesses, network marketing and MLM

November: Selling Handmade Goods, Craft Businesses  (as well as Articles and Features I want to set up a showcase Christmas Market featuring your handmade items)

January: Virtual Assistant and Concierge services

February: Health, Fitness and Beauty businesses

March: Mentoring, Coaching, Training businesses

Motivating Business Mums - the Ebook

The ebook from our charity event earlier this year,  Mummy Mentoring Month is selling very well, and I have been asked to promote it in several media channels. You can get a copy here Motivating Business Mums.  If you enjoy the book, you can promote it on your website or blog, and earn 50% commission from each sale.  Please contact me for details of the affiliate scheme.

Cybermummy 2011

Thank you so much to all of you who came up and said hello at Cybermummy.  I wore my Motivating Mum t-shirt on purpose as I knew I wouldn't be able to recognise many of you but quite a few of you sought me out.  Although I was terrified, my panel talk went reasonably well (see my blog) and I event got a namecheck in the Guardian write-up of the event. As I sit here I am now planning to talk at one or maybe two events in the autumn, and am also involved in the planning and organisation of two more events, so please watch here for details.

A Daily Dose of Motivation

My daily email service, A Daily Dose of Motivation has been very well received so far.  Readers receive a link to a Motivational blog or article every day, with the occasional offer and freebie thrown in for good measure.  I've also set up a twitter list for members (details of how to join are in the newsletter) and will soon hopefully be forming a blogging comments circle, so we can all support each other.
For those of you who have signed up for the second phase of Daily Dose, there was a short break over the summer holiday, but normal service will be resumed very soon, so please bear with me.

From the Motivating Mum Blog

Here are some quotes from recent blogs - click each link to read more. If you like what you see on the blog, please leave a comment - the authors really appreciate them and it helps our ratings....

When my youngest went in on his first day, he bounded in without a backwards glance, and I skipped off happily, relieved that the toddler years were finally behind me

I might just have to give up and go back to work, and then how would I face my husband, who had invested in me for nothing?

I had to sit on my hands and bite my lip, to stop from dancing in the aisles and joining in.

Get Your Home in Shape for Back to School
Some hints and tips for brightening and organising your home, from Liivi Hess of Magnolia Interiors.  The full article is here

  1. Choose the right materials - those that are easy to clean and will stand up to daily use so you can relax at home, rather than stressing about spills and stains.

  2. Create a family nerve centre -  Combining all of your organizational and planning functions into one area means that the family operates in a more coordinated and efficient way;

  3. Streamline everyday tasks - With a little bit of thought those chores and routines you do every day can become less onerous and a little bit more efficient to save your valuable time.

  4. Make affordable updates - Besides not being economical, it is also not environmentally sustainable to constantly throw things away and buy new ones. Use these tips to make smart and affordable changes so you can keep your home up to date but not break the bank, or the planet.
