On September 15, the CEO will be holding its first annual Servapalooza!  The CEO staff will be available to talk with you about about our major programs, including ICAP, Alternative Spring Break, Lunch Buddies, GIRLSS Group/MENtoring, and Colleges Against Cancer.  We'll also have information about other volunteer activities to match your interests.  Please stop by, meet the staff, and learn about all of these great opportunities.

CEO Program Information Sessions

In addition to Servapalooza, information sessions are being planned for our individual programs.  See the "Upcoming Info Sessions" list to the right for locations and times.

Lunch Buddies - Online Applications Available

Applications for our Lunch Buddies program are now available.  Lunch Buddies is our partnership with Mount Vernon's Washington Elementary School.  Participants join 3rd graders for lunch and recess three times a month.  Make a difference in a child's life by becoming a Lunch Buddy!

Applications are due by September 26 at 4:00 pm.  To apply, click here, and fill out the online form.  Answers in the form cannot be saved, so make sure you allow enough time to answer all questions.  Then, click here and electronically sign the Lunch Buddies Contract.

AmeriCorps ICAP Program

Are you interested in making a commitment to community service this year?  Then learn more about the ICAP program!  As a member of ICAP (Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps Program), you can earn an Education Award of approximately $1,000 by completing 300 hours of community service during the academic year.  The Education Award can be applied to tuition or student loans, and the long term volunteer commitment allows members to form deep connections with service organizations in the area.  For information, contact Collin Paschall, AmeriCorps VISTA at cpaschall@cornellcollege.edu, or drop by the Civic Engagement Office.  There will also be an information session on Monday, September 19 in Hedges at 6:30pm.

Block Break Service Trip: Mapleton, Iowa - September 29-October 1

A new event to start the year!  Collin Paschall, the CEO's AmeriCorps VISTA, is leading a Block Break Service Trip to Mapleton, Iowa during the first block break, September 29 to October 1.  Students will help this western Iowa community to rebuild from the effects of a tornado that struck this past April.  Students will work with painting, landscaping, and light construction.  Transportation, lodging, and food are all covered by a $20 participation fee.  There will be an info session on Tuesday, September 13 at 12:00 in Hedges.

VISTA Corner

Greetings CEO folks! My name is Collin Paschall, and I am thrilled to be the AmeriCorps VISTA working with the CEO this year. I've been pleased to meet many of you in these first few weeks. You'll see me around the CEO events, and popping up here and there at other campus events. Aside from supporting all of the CEO's programs, I will be managing the ICAP program, coordinating our Block Break Service Trip, and helping with a variety of other projects in the office and on campus.

For each newsletter, I'll try to include a news story, Youtube clip, or other interesting find, so check back in future weeks!
