'What are you getting for Christmas?'

Christmas Photo Tips
by Di
The holidays always bring the word 'busy' with it. People are busy rushing here, going there, and trying to fit in a party or quick stop at the store. This usually means that people don't think about their camera until they pull it out to shoot the festivity. And Murphy's law will state that the camera batteries will be dead when you need them. Here are a few photo tips for the holiday season.

1. Preparation!! Charge your camera battery a day or two before your Christmas celebration or holiday party. That it will be ready to go when it needs to be.
2. Select simple backgrounds. Try to keep clean scenes for better photos. Such as the Christmas Tree.
3. Before the chaos: take your detail images, such as ornaments, food, & gifts before the kids or guests come in and destroy your beautiful Christmas creations.

Dealing with Holiday Craziness
by Diana - Certified Recreation Therapist
I personally find the holidays to be a bit annoying ...I always wonder when I go the grocery store to get my normal milk, eggs, and general daily food staples why everyone has come out of the wood works and decided to go to the store at that exact same time I did to do their shopping. All the stores are busy, traffic is crazy and people are just nuts. Everyone gets so caught up in Christmas festivities that life moves on before you have the chance to say 'cheese'. Here are a couple ways to instill some calm in your life during the holidays.

1. Develop a 'To Do' list. Seems simple, and is. Take 5-10 minutes a day to make your list, to save yourself (studies have proven) about an hour a day.
2. Slow Down. Take 10 minutes out of your day (or minimum -week) to calm your nerves, your senses, and give yourself a re-adjustment on your day. You will also notice how much more you can accomplish when you 'slow down'. Yoga is a good way to find and be in the present.
3. Exercise. During these holiday times, I often hear the phrase "I just don't have time to exercise". Funny enough, this is the time when exercise is most important. If you can squeeze in 30 minutes, 3 times a week, you will improve your well being ten fold. Health & mental benefits of exercise during the holidays:
Improves Mood & Focus
Boosts Energy
Promotes a Good Night Sleep

and geez - it's just plain good fun!! :)

Incorporation of recreation in your life, especially during the holidays, is a fabulous holistic way to promote positive well being and keep a positive attitude. This is not the time to give up exercise or recreation. Make the time to fit it into your schedule.

Here's to a relaxing holiday season!
