Greetings from Mr. & Mrs. Brooks in Latvia!

"Jā!"

With this simple Latvian word ("yes" in English), Anna's and my life changed drastically... all for the better!

With those two letters, Anna and I became husband and wife and promised each other in front of God and a church full of our friends and family that we would spend the rest of our lives together. And by saying "Jā" Anna officially joined the Brooks family! A simple but life-changing word, huh? (You're supposed to yell "Jā!" at your computer now haha)

I can honestly say that our wedding day was the happiest day of my life and one that I will never forget. There were so many cool moments and details about the day that I cannot even begin to share about it through email. But the best way to describe it was that it was a perfect day! We have had numerous people say that it was the best and most beautiful wedding that they had ever been to. A bit humbling, but also a testimony to God's goodness and the many prayers and dozens of people who came together to make the day happen. It felt like the whole world came together to bless us as a couple! We thank God for that.

We won't have the official photographs and video for a while, but when we do get them I will let you know. For now, there are a few more pictures below...

We are ridiculously blessed!

It goes without saying, but I am thrilled to be with such an amazing woman of God! Anna is precious to me and I know my love for her will continue to grow and mature as we walk through life together. I am a blessed man, for sure. (Say it again with me, "Jā!")

It is also overwhelming when we try and think about thanking all the different people who helped to make our wedding day a reality. I have never been so blessed and humbled in my life! There was a huge amount of people who were involved in making this day so special for Anna and me! Many of you were involved in very practical ways, and you were all part of it through your precious prayers.

All this to say... THANK YOU!!!!!! We are beyond blessed and encouraged by the love and support we have recieved over the past few weeks. Thank you for all the prayers, thoughts, letters, gifts, emails, marshmallows, etc. that you sent on our behalf. We appreciate you!

"Medus Mēnesis"

After the wedding we took some much needed time off to rest as husband and wife.

We stayed a few nights at a beautiful guest house located just outside the beach city of Liepaja.

On the last night of our honeymoon, a good friend of ours gifted us with a night at a five-star hotel in the city! Not too shabby. It was a great ending to an amazing few days together. We are still a bit in shock about what just happened, but it is slowly sinking in that we get to spend the rest of our lives together. Thank you Jesus!

The Brooks Family in LV

It was a special blessing to have my family here (minus Carly & Maddison) to celebrate with us on this significant occasion!

My parents arrived two weeks before the wedding, and Rob and Tim got in the week before, so it was great to have them here to help with the preparation. We got to spend a lot of time together as a family and somehow the five of us were able to fit into my small car. I freaking love my family!

One of the best parts of having them here was that they were able to meet Anna's family and spend time with them. At first I was a bit nervous because of the small language barrier, but God answers prayers and it could not have gone any better! I am thankful to say that in just a short amount of time our families became good friends!

The Brookses and Baštiki together. We're a pretty small group, huh? (And one last time, sarcastically... "Jā!")

We are coming!

Since most of you were not able to make it to our ceremony, we are bringing the wedding party to you! Well, I guess just the two of us. But we would love to be able to see you and visit with you! Here is our tenative schedule for our time in the States...
  • October 1: Leave Rīga
  • October 2-4: Spending time w/ our good friends in Chicago, The Littles
  • October 4-7: Josiah Venture Orientation in Wheaton
  • October 8-9: In Chicago w/ Chad & Polina Little
  • October 9: Arrive in Phoenix
  • October 15: Our wedding open house in Phoenix (more info to come)
  • October 19-24: In Baltimore for my cousin Patrick's wedding
  • October 25-27: Visiting w/ Anna's sister and brother-in-law in New York
  • October 28: Back in Arizona
  • November 10: Maddison's birthday!
  • November 24: Thanksgiving w/ Family
  • November 25: My Mom's birthday!
  • November 29: Leave Phoenix
  • November 30: Arrive in Rīga
I will also need to raise some additional financial support while I am in the States, so please be thinking and praying if you would like to support us in that way or if you would be able to increase your support as Anna and I begin our family together. Just like we wouldn't have wanted to plan the wedding by ourselves, we don't want to walk through life alone. We need your prayers and support! Thank you dearly for all you that you have done on our behalf. We love you!

Gratefully,
Joe & Anna

A summer of ministry

God produces much fruit: In other non-wedding related news, God worked miracles this summer! I'm not a guy who is big into numbers, but someone on our team calculated that around 50 students put their trust in Christ as their Savior in our camps this summer. That is amazing! God IS mighty! Nothing can stop His work. Thank you for your partnership through prayer and your financial giving. There is still much more work to do!

Next steps: Over this next year I will be in the process of taking over leadership for the summer ministry. This will eventually include planning and organizing for the camps, training for summer ministry with North American and Latvian church teams, intern care, etc. With potentially nine camps next year this is a daunting task, but one that I am excited for!
