At Friday's Live Chat, the theme will be "Best and Worst Advice." Deborah will share advice that she uses (or doesn't use) in her creative process. For our break out conversations, you may want to think ahead about what pieces of advice related to creating art have made an impact on your work. You can join the Live Chat on Friday using this link: https://zoom.us/j/504432042 which is also always listed at www.saqa.com/livechat. You'll need to log in to view the link.

Women Against the Machine: Craft, Design and the Exploitation of Female Labor

Presented by Surface Design Association

Elizabeth Kozlowski, Surface Design Journal Editor, presented "Women Against the Machine: Craft, Design and the Exploitation of Female Labor" last week. This presentation investigated the historical gendered division of labor and its relationship to artistic production, specifically the development of the textile industry and the labor movement in the United States. Kozlowski explored industrialization in the United States and abroad and how it deftly illustrates the women’s movement and its symbiotic relationship to contemporary fiber arts.

Survey News:

Member Prize Winners!

The real winners are all of SAQA for giving us so much actionable data to build on. The response rate was overwhelming and surpassed our goal by a very nice margin so, in appreciation, we added two more member prizes for a total of five winners! Thank you to everyone who completed the survey!
Congratulations to the Five Members who will receive an $80 credit towards membership renewal: Connie Akers, Barbara Allen, Edith Gross, Rose Klein, and Hope Wilmarth.

Regional Winners!

The regions were so incredibly supportive and the survey response rate so great that we’re showing our appreciation by adding a third regional prize.

Congratulations to the Three Regions with the highest percentages of responders. They will receive a $200 credit for use in regional activities.

Latin America & Caribbean: Small Region (<50 Members) 73% participation
Connecticut: Medium Region (51 – 99 Members) 39% participation
Western Canada: Large Region (>100 Members) 50% participation

Want a sneak-peek of the all-member survey comments?

The survey team needs 3-4 SAQA members to help summarize survey comments mid-August through September, for about 10 hrs/week, to help create a report for the SAQA board, committees, and members. Volunteer to membersurvey@saqa.com by Friday, July 24. Tell us what interests you and your related experience. Look for a response by August 6. Questions welcome, and we hope you can join us!
