Proverbs 22:17-21

17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise,

and apply your heart to my knowledge,

18 for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you,

if all of them are ready on your lips.

19 That your trust may be in the Lord,

I have made them known to you today, even to you.

20 Have I not written for you thirty sayings

of counsel and knowledge,

21 to make you know what is right and true,

that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?

You’re almost done with all 31 chapters of Proverbs.

Here the author pauses writing quick statements of truth to talk about how you are using Proverbs.

Before you give up on the idea that God's word can make your marriage something that you are proud of, ask yourself these 6 questions from the 5 verses above.

Will Proverbs Help My Marriage?

  1. Are you skimming the Scriptures or paying close attention? (v.17)

  2. Are you remembering and repeating these Scriptures throughout the day? (v.18)

  3. Are you reading Proverbs to deepen your trust in God? (v.19)

  4. Are you applying Proverbs to your daily decision making? (v.20)

  5. As you read Proverbs are you letting go of lies for truth? (v.21)

  6. Are you reading Proverbs as one who is responsible to give truth to others? (v.21)

The Bible doesn't work like a lucky charm.

You won't be hypnotized into making a marriage you're proud of.

If you read and apply God's word, it will change your life.

Changed people have change marriages.

Read it, remember it, trust God more, let it change you, hold fast to truth, read as someone who is responsible for others.

You will be so glad you did!

Be kind and keep talking,

Brooke and Brian
