Taking It To The Street

We are busy as bees.

Our Rooftop Garden

This summer has been unlike any other. The garden has been quiet without the normal hustle and bustle of our summer programs. We are used to hearing the squeals of delight as children discover a new sprout, an insect, a newly formed fruit. We miss our summer interns and the joy of working side-by-side with the kiddos we have seen grow with the garden over the years.
Though it is quieter than normal, the garden keeps on growing. And our staff is busy as bees nurturing and cultivating the space so when school reopens, students can return to delighting and learning in the garden.

Many of the pollinator plants are in full bloom, including Purple Cone Flower, Bee Balm, and Milk Weed. These plants play such an important role in the health and production of fruits and vegetables we grow, attracting bees, butterflies, moths, and beetles. Without the pollinators we would not have the abundance of flowers and edible crops to share with the community.

Our harvests have been full of fresh herbs, greens, zucchini and squash. Tomatoes are ripening on the vine, as are beans, peppers, eggplant, and winter squash.
When you can't bring the kiddos to the garden you take the garden to the kiddos. Each week we set up our market table in front of the school providing fresh produce, garden craft kits and activities for everyone who stops by.

Fresh carrots are a tasty  treat!

Friends meet at the garden market. Adrianna grabs some carrots, while Brooke finds a good book.
Garden Board member, Carly Rospert, greets everyone with a smile.
