Sustainable Neighbourhoods Citywide Clean Up
Sunday 9 August, 10am-noon
Various locations

Sustainable Neighbourhoods is improving our neighbourhoods with five Eco Angel clean up events across the city.
The ongoing impacts of the global pandemic have increased our appreciation of the immense value of our natural areas and green spaces. Help us care for our local places and enjoy a fun morning outdoors together, to remove plastics and other litter from our neighbourhoods.
This is a Covid-Safe event. Participant numbers will be strictly limited to 20 people per site, and we will maintain adherence to physical distancing and hygiene measures. Please wear covered shoes, sunsafe clothes, and bring a bottle of water.

Just head to Grill'd Charlestown Square during August for a burger and pop your Local Matters token in our jar.
How shall we celebrate 10 years?

Council initiated the Sustainable Neighbourhoods program way back in 2008,  with a number of Sustainable Neighbourhood groups becoming established across the city over the following few years.
As our network became more established, volunteers from across the City worked together to formalise the network's governance structure to enable independence and support in the long term - creating the Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance, which was officially incorporated on 7 July 2011.
That means that July 2021 will mark a decade of a formal Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance!

How do you want to celebrate this significant occasion? Here's some ideas to get you thinking:

  • Link with Living Smart Festival, September 2021
  • Link with ReLeaf and Cardiff Pollinator projects
    • Tree Cities of the World: Annual celebration of trees;
    • combine with National Tree Day in July and Native plant giveaway
    • Landcare links / tree planting events with schools
    • street tree plantings?
  • Promote and publicise our decade of achievements and recruit new members - create a podcast, video series
  • Series of street parties around the city
  • Big community picnic
  • Volunteer awards
  • ... what else?
Please let us know if you've got any bright ideas. We'll also include some time for discussion at our upcoming Sustainable Neighbourhood network gathering on 26 August.
Save the date
Sustainable Neighbourhood network gathering

We're currently planning for our next network gathering (likely online) to give us a chance to catch up, find out what's happening across the city, and discuss ideas for the Alliance's 10th anniversary.
Save the date for Wednesday 26 August, 6-8pm. We'd love to see you there.
More details to come.

Sustainable Development Goals
Hunter Region Task Force

The Hunter Region Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Task Force is a group of motivated businesses, not-for-profits and government bodies who are focused on collaborating to achieve the United Nations SGGs in the Hunter Region.
The Task Force is a collaboration of 17 action groups which have come together to set targets and take action on each of the 17 SDGs. Each of the action groups will be empowered to directly work on achieving that goal through their current actions, and by identifying opportunities to better address all of the targets and collaborating with others in the region to do so.
