From Julie

We start Term 3 with a new family joining our school community. We welcome Tessa and her parents, Kate and Leigh, to The Cottage School. Tessa has joined Grade 2 and it has been wonderful to see our students supporting her so well in her transition to a new school and Tessa having such a good time in the new environment.

Annette will be sending out Term 3 fee invoices this week and we want to remind everyone that there is a process to apply for fee relief in these difficult times. We understand that the pandemic has negatively impacted many families’ income and we are committed to supporting everyone to remain part of the school community if at all possible. Committee have decided not to offer across the board fee relief for the remainder of this year but they are keen to offer fee relief to individual families experiencing difficulties, so, please talk with or email Annette or myself to get the application form.

With the change to our COVID safety planning made possible because of the lifting of government restrictions, Family Jobs have started up again. Thank you to the many families who have slipped back into your weekly routine already.

We recently advertised our school in the Mercury school supplement and for those of you who missed it click HERE to view.

In the last 2 weeks our architects, Taylor and Hinds, have worked with the Project Coordination Group, the staff and then the Committee trying to better understand our school, its core values and pedagogy and what we are all about as a school and as a school community. Committee on Wednesday night wanted to involve our school community in this process more directly so we ask you the question: What is the Cottage School? Please send your response directly to me at julie.leitch@cottageschool.tas.edu.au and I will collate the responses I receive by next Friday and forward them to Taylor and Hinds to better inform them of who we are and what we stand for.

GOLDEN HANDSHAKE

Tessa  for making a confident start and building social connections on day one of her time at school

Middlies 1/2 from Hana

Here in the Middlies 1/2 everyone has returned refreshed and ready for whatever term 3 throws our way. Marina and I are looking forward to a full term with the children (fingers crossed). We have been impressed with the adaptability that the children have shown over the past 2 terms. They have reminded us that learning really can take place in any context and that we must make the most of the time that we do have together.

Last term we learnt about seasonal change, what factors drive seasonal change, what this means for us in our lifestyles and what we can observe in the sky and landscapes when these changes are occurring.

During Autumn and our home learning time we learnt more about deciduous trees. The children hunted and found beautiful collections of leaves from deciduous trees in their local area. They were asked to sketch their leaf then to create an embroidery of this leaf using an autumnal colour palette. This took many hours and most leaves were completed at school during art and choosing lesson. The final pieces of work are stunning and look fabulous when displayed together in our classroom.
