This email is from the Rochester Center for Community Leadership and highlights events, opportunities, and news in the world of community-engaged learning.
Dear CEL Family,

The Rochester Center for Community Leadership (RCCL) is celebrating our 15th anniversary! Since our inception, RCCL has been the home for Rochester traditions, like Wilson Day of Engagement, and mainstay programs like Rochester Urban Fellows. We have also become an incubator for new initiatives like Rochester Youth Year, LEAP, TOUR, and community-engaged learning.

Over the past 15 years, RCCL has grown and changed significantly, expanding from a mere two staff people to eight FTE staff, three graduate assistants, 75 undergraduate student employees, and 15 AmeriCorps VISTA members. This growth has primarily been in the area of civic and community engagement, while leadership efforts have unfortunately lagged behind.

We have recognized that our name now lends itself to some confusion: that we are a stand-alone community organization, rather than part of the University; that we offer more leadership development education and training than we do; or that we are a grant-making organization that supports community development.

Our strategic plan supports the further development of leadership resources in a unit separate from, but connected and complementary to, RCCL, allowing us to focus our expertise on civic engagement and community-engaged leadership.

The Rochester Center for Community Leadership (RCCL) fosters collaborative leadership among students, faculty, staff, and community partners to discover transformative solutions and create equitable social change in the Rochester community and beyond.

In order to advance our work in this way, we are excited to select a new name for RCCL, to be unveiled during the Fall 2020 semester as we celebrate this 15 year milestone. We want your feedback on our new potential names!  We greatly appreciate your creative energies in supporting this effort. As in all our work, we cannot do this without you.
