It was a great week for our Senior Premier teams with the MPL, MPL Reserves and WPL teams all winning. The Guys did the double over Christchurch United with the Reserves winning 2-1 and the First team running out 4-1 winners in an excellent performance at CFC. The WPL team chalked up an incredible score beating Halswell 12-0 with 6 goals from Britney-Lee Nicholson. On the Youth side of things the U13, U14 and U15 Boys all had good wins. The U14 side made their Division 1 debut after moving up 2 divisions and beating FC Twenty 4-1. Great work guys!

There is no doubt about it, the biggest game in town this Saturday is the MPL game Coastal v Cashmere Tech. In a 2nd v 1st encounter, Tech are currently 7 points clear of us at the top of the table but we have to play them 3 times this season starting this Saturday at Linfield Park 2.45pm. Lets get a big crowd down to Linfield and make some noise as the lads try to close the gap on Tech.

This week we feature Coastal Spirit Rovers. Rovers are our Men’s Sunday League team and have been around for over 30 years. Originally New Brighton Rovers the team was one of the first Sunday teams to join a Saturday football club.

Player/Manager Ben McNabb who has been playing for the team for 20 years says:

“At present we are top of Division 2 and hopefully looking at promotion back to Division 1. We are a team of star studded internationals, with players from Brazil, Ghana, Thailand, Slovenia, Croatia, England and the Czech Republic as well as our local Kiwis. The highlight of the year is our Annual International where the Kiwis play the Internationals followed by some heavy refreshments”

The honours history of the Rovers is pretty impressive and records have been kept since 1973. The team has won 7 Division 1 titles and 8 Bolam Cups, all in a golden period from 1999 - 2013

Ben added “The star of the show is Dan Evans who travels up from Timaru every week to play for us. He’s been doing this for over 2 seasons which is pretty impressive loyalty”

Rovers play their home games at Linfield Park with a KO time of 2.00pm. This week the guys make the short trip to Avondale Park to play the Bower.

Good Luck Guys!
