I am always apprehensive before Summer Camp because its success or failure is an unknown quantity.
Our preparation for it occupies our energies up to the last minute and include; maintenance on the grounds done, the accommodation spaces set up, fridges cleaned and turned on, systems and staff scheduling finalised, Covid signs displayed and passport scanning organised, bookings checked and re-checked. Tick, tick, tick. Then we wait for the guests to arrive.
There are always so many variables in play as to its success, a major one being the weather.
We were blessed by classic summer sunshine during the camp, which ensured a happy crowd.
The Camp Daddies were instrumental in providing outrageous theatricals and we acknowledge a huge debt to them for creating a memorable holiday experience.
Another highlight was the Quiz Nite in which the whole Camp participated. I loved the inventiveness of Martin and David's approach to the evening.
Only days prior to Jan 1st, the traditional date for the Variety Show, I scrabbled together a short play called Polymorphously Perverse which duly premiered with the cast reading their lines from handheld scripts since we hadn't been able to do a rehearsal.
That and performance by Logan and Pete combined to be the night's entertainment.
I admit that during Camp there were times when I lectured, even yelled at, transgressors of our systems here, which are designed to reduce the carbon footprint of our existence, but mostly I just enjoyed the diverse nature of our Queer Community.
Thank you all for coming and helping to keep this place called Autumn Farm alive.
