Dear Parishioners,
It is my responsibility as Pastor to keep you informed of the financial condition of the parish. Each Fall an Annual Report is published that details the expenses and revenues of the parish. In the two most recent reports (2018-2019) I commented on a decrease in the income from the Offertory collection and Annual Fund. This year’s report will show a significant, and alarming, reduction in parish income. Our expenses have remained relatively constant because we have had no lay-offs of any employee and have had to incur substantial unanticipated expenditures related to the health and safety measures related to the coronavirus. In addition, there was the unanticipated capital cost in setting up the capability to livestream Masses from the Lady Chapel. [I write “unanticipated,” but add “providential!”]
Your help is urgently needed to cover the operational expenses of the parish. While church reserves provide something of a cushion to soften the blow of an operating deficit, they are not unlimited. I encourage you to use your weekly Offertory envelopes and deposit them in the collection boxes in the church or drop them in the mail. Better yet, you have the option to make a recurring contribution through your credit card or bank account by clicking here.

Do you have a friend, family member, or a loved one who is considering becoming Catholic? We want you to know about a program at the parish beginning in the Fall.
During this program, interested individuals have the opportunity to inquire into the Catholic faith, to come to know Jesus through the Gospels, to pray, and to prepare for the Easter Sacraments. This process is also open to Catholic adults who have not received the Sacraments of First Communion or Confirmation.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Wednesday, August 5th at 7 PM
SVdP meets biweekly (year-round) on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM via Zoom. Meeting attendees can choose to participate online via smartphone/computer or via telephone.
Meetings begin with a prayer and spiritual reflection, followed by an agenda of items geared toward service toward the Poor. We also build and grow in friendship by sharing updates and happenings in our lives. Please consider joining us as we serve our neighbors in need.

The Imani Winds, the Harlem String Quartet, and a jazz trio joined forces under the direction of composer and horn player Jeff Scott. The results were absolutely thrilling!

Welcome Back, Fr. Mark Hallinan!
 Dear Parishioners,
It is a great blessing to return to St. Ignatius Loyola Church. This is where I first fell in love with parish ministry way back in 1995 when I was first ordained a priest. What I find so fulfilling and enriching in parish ministry is the diversity of persons with whom you interact and the daily need to break open the Word of God; to discover the riches of scripture anew each day.
Since I left St. Ignatius Loyola, I have served as coordinator of social justice ministries for the then New York Province of the Society of Jesus. This was a great opportunity for me to be involved in work on affordable housing, labor rights, socially responsible investing, and matters relating to juvenile justice.
I was then called to be pastor of two churches on Staten Island with a primarily Hispanic, immigrant population. During my tenure, we went from three worship sites to one without serious disruption to the community of faith. I was deeply edified by the Anglo community’s embrace of their immigrant brothers and sisters who exhibited a rich faith in the face of discrimination, workplace injustices and, for some, the daily threat of deportation.

The St. Ignatius Loyola Children’s Choir program is auditioning 1st through 8th graders for next season. We begin in September with online training.
Choristers participate in our liturgies and concerts, serve their parish and community, and enjoy the company of children from nearby schools. No previous experience is necessary.
Please contact Maureen Haley, Director of Children’s Choirs, at haleym@saintignatiusloyola.org to inquire about audition procedures and rehearsal times. Auditions for next season—which begins in an online format in September—are ongoing throughout the summer.

In his Thursday, July 16th homily, Fr. O'Connell shares Jesus' invitation to us: "'Come to me and I will give you rest.' [Jesus] did not promise a painless life but a life filled with purpose. Will we accept his invitation? Will we go to him? Will we come to him? Will we let him bear our burdens? Let us resolve to go and accept Jesus' invitation. Let us resolve to go and share his way to the father."

The Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Rome is a prominent apostolate of the Society of Jesus. The church is significantly supported through the contributions of visitors and tourists. There has been a substantial decrease in revenue to support the operations of the church due to the pandemic.
