Wearing appropriate face coverings or masks will be compulsory in shops from 24th July, with fines of up to £100 for those who don’t comply. Children under 11 and those with certain disabilities will be exempt from this rule. This regulation is hoped to increase the confidence of shoppers, while also helping to keep retail staff safe.

Lifting lockdown measures

The government (17.07.20) announced new plans to ease restrictions in the coming weeks and months. All of these changes will be kept under review and are subject to change. The updated timelines are as follows:

25th July: Gyms, indoor pools and sports facilities will be able to reopen

August 1st: From this date, the government's advice for employers will change to give businesses more discretion to bring staff back into workplaces, if it's safe to do so. Most leisure venues will also be able to reopen, not including nightclubs and soft play areas (information to follow at a later date on these). Trials of indoor performances to live audiences will also begin

From 1st October: Large stadium events and conferences can begin

All outstanding restrictions will then be reviewed in November.
