News and updates for Above Bar Church parents and carers

Summer 2020

Dear <<First Name>>,

There's a lot of information in this email, so sit down with a cup of tea and note down a couple of things things that would be useful for your family this summer. We'll send you little reminders along the way of what's happening. We're praying that you and your kids will continue to discover the love and care of our heavenly Father.

Brief summary: There's Keswick for kids, some challenges with prizes to go with our summer Sunday series, Faith in Kids to help you with you family Bible times, and don't forget to video yourselves doing the actions to Father you are King of Heaven. There's also a Families Together on Zoom for families with under 7s, some GSMA Zoom calls, and a couple of WOW film nights.

Keswick for Kids: 27th - 31st July

This exciting online Keswick 4 Kids programme features Bible teaching that we pray will help children to know and love our great God! Perhaps you could meet up with another family or friend to watch together? You can watch it anytime.

The stream is for children aged between 3 and 11.

There is an excellent team (including our very own Katherine Trollope!) who are excited to lead this week of online activities, and eager to share how great it is to follow Jesus.

There are free resources to go with each day's teaching.

There’s no need to register or sign up this year. During the Convention, sessions will be livestreamed on the Homepage. They will then be available afterwards on the Keswick Convention YouTube channel.

There's also a brilliant programme for teenagers and adults. We're looking forward to hearing Christopher Ash on the Psalms and various other speakers in the evenings. You can find the programme here. Why not have a look.

Names of God: Summer Sunday Challenges and prizes

In the Bible God has many names, and his names show us who he is and what he’s like, so we can know him better. This summer as we learn some of the names of God in our online Sunday services, let's pray that we grow in our knowledge and love of our amazing God.

There are suggested activities (see below) that you could do every day of the week relating to the Sunday services. There will be prizes at the end of the summer if you can show one of the children's team how many activities you've completed. You can print off the challenges below and stick them on your fridge so that you can initial each activity as it's completed. Why not share pictures in the FB Above Bar Church digital community group? It would be great to encourage each other with the fun, the joy, and the disasters. There's a choice of songs. Nicola Musson's brother and wife have put some fast-paced actions together to go with some songs, so if your kids are missing Joe Wicks this might be just the thing they're looking for. You can print off a PDF of the sheets here.
  • If your child complete 10 activities you'll get a bronze prize.
  • If your child complete 20 activities you'll get a silver prize.
  • If your child complete 30 activities you'll get a gold prize. You can also get a gold prize by just learning all 6 of the memory verses as I think that's quite hard!

Faith in Kids summer series

I am a massive fan of the Faith in Kids resources. If you've not discovered them yet, now is the time to look. Throughout the summer, from Monday 13th July until Friday 28th August, they will be taking a Bible theme each week, so that you can learn together and enjoy it. For more information, go to their FB page.

Don't forget! We need your videos by Saturday 1st August please :)

We've got a fun little project that we'd love you to be a part of. We know that you love singing Father you are King of Heaven, and we'd like to put a video together of as many families (kids and adults) doing the actions to this song to be put in a service in August? My Ollie is going to do all the video editing.

If you can't remember the song or the actions, you can watch Hannah singing and doing the actions above.

Instructions:
  • play the song from a CD, Bandcamp, or use Hannah's video. Make sure you've got the sound on. Ollie will need it on for syncing.
  • sing along and do the actions to the whole song (don't worry - we won't use your voices in the final video!)
  • decide the best place to video (don't worry about tidying up first - it'll make everyone feel better if they see you've got mess too)
  • film at 720p, or higher if possible (these settings should be within your phone/camera), or at the highest quality you can if you can’t find the settings.
  • film landscape
  • try not to have the light behind you, as it makes your faces harder to see.
  • we would recommend using https://wetransfer.com or https://www.google.com/drive/ to send the video files (ask Ollie if you're not sure)
  • send to oliver@tonywatkins.org by Saturday 1st August (don't just leave it until then, the sooner the better)
Have fun! I'm looking forward to seeing you and your lovely families! Any questions send me a message.

WOW film nights (children in years 3 to 6)
These are for children age 7 - 11. We will be playing a couple of games, watching a 30-minute Torchlighter film, and chatting about what we watched. Please note that these films are animations, based on true stories. They contain mild threat and violence. You can watch a clip of the videos below, and find out more on the Torchlighter website. Adults are welcome to watch the film with their children if you would like to. Katherine will be in touch with WOW aged families with Zoom links.
Do get in touch if you have any questions about anything in the email. During the next six weeks Katherine, Hannah and I will each be taking some holiday, but one of us will always be around to answer your questions. We hope and pray that you will enjoy God and your family this summer.
