Resumption of further library services

Some updates for our library users as we move through the re-opening phases:
  • Based on the most recent health advice, visitors to our libraries are requested to wear face coverings.
  • All our libraries are now open. Shankill Library re-opened on Monday 20 July. See their opening times here.
  • Sunday opening dlr LexIcon. Level 3 is open on Sundays from 12-4pm. Come for the CoCo market, a coffee in Ink café, a walk on the pier and a browse of the library shelves!
  • The national library reserves system has been switched back on! You can now order any item from any part of the country.

  • Overdrive online e-books and e-audiobooks:
While our libraries were closed, we extended OverDrive access to anyone who joined online during this time, and was not confined to DLR patrons only. Unfortunately, from 20 July, OverDrive has reverted to being accessible to patrons with a DLR library card only.
*** For those wishing to continue using Overdrive, over the next few weeks we request that you visit one of our 8 libraries with your temporary library card number and proof of address to receive your physical dlr Libraries card. If this is not possible, please email or phone your nearest DLR library for assistance in this matter.***

Children's art competition: Online exhibition

We were so impressed with all the entries in our recent Summer Art Competition for children that we just had to put them all together in an online exhibition to share with everyone!

Selecting winners for a children's art competition is a difficult task. We engaged with a local artist to pick winning entries on our behalf. Our judge has kindly provided commentary and encouragement to all the children that entered the competition.

We are aware competitions can focus on winners, and we want to recognise the beautiful work from all of our young artists who entered and let them know we value all of their work, and encourage further endeavours.
As Picasso said "Every child is an artist."

Tim Thurston's recommended listening

dlr Libraries are delighted to present a bumper 12 week-long list of Recommended Listening thanks to Tim Thurston. To keep our spirits up, Tim gave weekly recommendations over the last few months during the Lockdown and we now have Tim's full Compilation List plus a short introductory film by none other than Mr Thurston himself!

Check out the music suggested by Tim on YouTube, Spotify or Freegal. You can also search dlr LexIcon's extensive CD collection including a comprehensive selection of classical and jazz CDs donated by Tim over the last few years.
