THE COLOR OF GREY
One of the greatest opportunities for rich color is in our greys. It is important to understand that a greyed color does not have to be a lifeless Crayola grey; the term “grey” simply means that a color is not a primary or secondary color. It can, and probably should, have beautiful mixes of colors within it.
In the greyer portions of your painting, allow the complementary colors to mix on their own so the resulting color is interesting and not lifeless. Bands of warm and cool colors should be evident in your greyed mixtures.
Unfortunately, photographs are not helpful on this. Most shadows are a flat grey and the deeper shadows are the same, but darker in value. Stay away from that color. Bring light to your paintings by allowing your greyed mixtures to be exciting complementary mixes. Your painting will benefit greatly.

NEW ZOOM PAINT-ALONG CLASS

This is your unique opportunity to paint with Eric! You will learn his techniques and thought processes as you paint alongside a master of watercolor painting. Eric will provide the photo reference prior to the class. He will walk you through the painting process including drawing, value study, and paint application. This is an exciting opportunity!
Our live online class is taught via Zoom. Students have the opportunity to interact with Eric and other participants. Once you’ve enrolled, you’ll receive instructions about how to access the class.
To take this class, you need a microphone and camera enabled computer OR an iPad /smart tablet OR a smart phone (android or IOS) and a strong internet connection. We are happy to help with understanding Zoom by individual appointment.
