How About Some Good News?

Reading the news these days is enough to double your heart rate. So, how about some good news?

Here's a neat article on how a U Market supplier, Promega, went the extra mile to help a UMN lab at the start of the pandemic.

Being Sustainably Safe

The phrase "safety first" is definitely more true now than ever. With that being said, there are still a few ways to be sustainable in these difficult times.

See below for a few green tips regarding PPE. However, always err on the side of caution and be safe first, sustainable second.

REUSE
If it is safe to do so, consider swapping disposable PPE with equipment specifically intended for reuse.

For example, a reusable, cloth facemask may be a safe, and more sustainable, alternative to disposables. Just remember to responsibly wash and sanitize reusable PPE.

RECYCLE
Even though most PPE is not recyclable, understanding how to properly sort your waste is an important sustainability action.

Here is how to dispose of commonly-used PPE:
  • Gloves and masks should be disposed of in the trash. On campus, look for the grey bins labeled "Trash Only."
  • Recycle empty bottles in the "Cans & Bottles" bins with maroon lids on campus. Hand sanitizer, soap and spray bottles are all recyclable on campus.
  • Compost paper towels used to dry clean hands in the "Organics Recycling" bins. Look for the bins with green lids on campus.
