Small Area Population Estimates 2020
The last census was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in 2016 and the next census is scheduled to be conducted in 2021. The first release of the census data is typically scheduled six months after the census night and the second release around one year after census night.
The unavailability of population counts data in between two censuses presents the need for understanding population changes in the intervening years.

Spectrum Analysis has recently produced small area population estimates for June 2020. We have this data available at the SA1, suburb and postcode levels. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in licensing our small area population and household estimates.
We are now back to full staff operation
Our Staff (from top left):
Melinda Shepherd, Nam Pham, Van Pham, Brendan Streager,
Asel Mendis, Anubhav Tewari and Peter Buckingham
Thanks everyone for keeping in touch and for your support during the pandemic.

Despite the fact that the pandemic is still becoming more severe in Victoria, our business is fortunate enough to be able to operate remotely and provide our service to other parts of Australia, New Zealand and to some global Clients.

We managed to operate with two thirds of our resources since the first stage 3 lock down started. We welcomed Brendan back full time since the last week of June. And now we are welcoming Melinda back from her long service leave and moving back to full strength with 7 staff working full time, plus our marketing and accounting part timers.

We are still following strictly the state's working-from-home instructions and have been maintaining our group meeting at 9AM every morning, Monday to Friday through Zoom. The picture above was taken from our meeting this morning (obviously Nam has only one thumb up, because he was chosen to perform the most important task - press printscreen).

We have been keeping up with the technology and adjusting ourselves to keep the same efficiency as before the pandemic. We want to make sure the pandemic will not affect the quality of our services deliverd to our valued customers.

Stay healthy, stay positive and please keep in touch.
Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail

Whilst the title of this article is an oldie, it always remains a truism of life.

From a Franchisors’ point of view, it should be one of the stable quotes you roll out time and again to the Franchisees at many a conference and gathering, but do you apply the same rules to your own business – in many areas?

Another good quote is to be Proactive and not Reactive in establishing your store network. Proactive is where you know where you want to go to open stores. Reactive is the Leasing Agent telling you where they have a store for rent!

In this article, Peter delivered analysis using demographics data to address multiple questions:
  • How can we measure our trade areas?
  • What areas should be best for our Brand?
  • Where are the areas we are not in?
  • Where are the growth corridors of the major cities?
