NHS Volunteer Responder Programme
Fortnightly webinars are being held to provide regular updates on the NHS Volunteer Responder programme. The webinars are for referrers and colleagues working across health and care, including: primary care; social care; local authorities; government departments; voluntary sector organisations; STPs and ICSs; and NHS England and Improvement regional teams.
These webinars will provide an overview of the programme, including facts, figures and the most recent updates on programme adaptations in response to policy changes and the needs of vulnerable people. They are also an ideal opportunity to ask questions about the programme and hear about the impact it is having.
The first webinar will be held next week, with further sessions following every two weeks. Dates for the first six webinars, and the links to join them, are listed below:
Tonic Living
An innovative and exciting piece of work has seen Tonic Housing Association submit a proposal to the GLA's London Community Housing Fund for a loan to enable the purchase of 19 shared ownership apartments which will develop the first LGBT+ affirming retirement community in London and the UK.
There is clearly a demand for this and the recent Building Safe Choices survey of older LGBT+ Londoners had over 600 responses with 79% stating their preference for LGBT+ specific or accredited retirement communities. If you want to show your support for this work you can tweet in solidarity using the following template:
"The demand & demand for LGBT+ affirming retirement provision is clear. We look forward to seeing how London responds to support Tonic Living in its innovative endeavours @MayorofLondon @tomcopley @OpeningDoorsLdn @Stonewallhousin @toniclivingcic"

The National LGB&T has been part of a Health and Wellbeing Alliance project looking at the importance of supporting unpaid carers to plan for a future when they will be less able or unable to care.
This new report - No Longer Able to Care: Supporting older carers and ageing parent carers to plan for a future when they are less able or unable to care - highlights how older parent carers and ageing carers who face additional barriers to accessing services should be supported to prepare for a time when they are less able or unable to provide care. Please check out the Carers Trust website to download the report and the resources.
