Welcome to our latest Partnership e-bulletin.

As we continue to navigate the pandemic we hope the information below helps to keep LGBT voices visible and gives you a good overview of current LGBT health and wellbeing issues.

Thank you to Harri and welcome to Laura
A huge thank you to Harri for everything they did in their role with the Partnership for the past 5 years. We wish them well with their new role.

We are delighted to announce that Laura Clarke will join the team as our new Stakeholder Engagement Officer next week. Laura will be spending her first couple of weeks getting to know people across the health and wellbeing spectrum and everyone at the Partnership is exicted to welcome her. Paid Role: Membership and Engagement Manager
Consortium is on the lookout for their next Membership and Engagement Manager who will lead support for LGBT+ organisations across the country. There is just one week left to apply for this exciting role with full details here.

Covid-19 and the LGBT+ Sector
Consortium, the infrastructure body for the LGBT+ Sector, continues to collate sector relevant information in relation to Covid-19 on its dedicated pages. This includes research and data, and additional resources for LGBT+ organisations navigating these challenging times. 

Additional Mental Health workshops for staff and volunteers in the LGBT+ sector
Following a successful first round of workshops with MindOut, the LGBT Health team at NHS England have funded a further four sessions to talke place during July/August. Space is limited for these sessions but for more information please email e.streeter@nhs.net to book a place. 

- Responding to Suicidal Distress/Suicide Prevention in LGBTQ Communities: Wed 22nd July 2- 4pm
- Boundaries and Safe Working in LGBTQ Communities: Wed 29th July 2 – 4pm
- Mental Health 101: Wed 5th August 10am – 12 noon
- Mindfulness Practices for Self-Care: Thurs 13th August 3 – 5pm

Birmingham LGBT launches new campaign to test and treat HIV
Birmingham has launched its #123STOPHIV campaign to highlight free guided HIV tests at home during lockdown and with social distancing for people living in Birmingham and Solihull.

NHS Volunteer Responder Programme

Fortnightly webinars are being held to provide regular updates on the NHS Volunteer Responder programme. The webinars are for referrers and colleagues working across health and care, including: primary care; social care; local authorities; government departments; voluntary sector organisations; STPs and ICSs; and NHS England and Improvement regional teams.

These webinars will provide an overview of the programme, including facts, figures and the most recent updates on programme adaptations in response to policy changes and the needs of vulnerable people. They are also an ideal opportunity to ask questions about the programme and hear about the impact it is having.

The first webinar will be held next week, with further sessions following every two weeks. Dates for the first six webinars, and the links to join them, are listed below:


Tonic Living
An innovative and exciting piece of work has seen Tonic Housing Association submit a proposal to the GLA's London Community Housing Fund for a loan to enable the purchase of 19 shared ownership apartments which will develop the first LGBT+ affirming retirement community in London and the UK. 
There is clearly a demand for this and the recent Building Safe Choices survey of older LGBT+ Londoners had over 600 responses with 79% stating their preference for LGBT+ specific or accredited retirement communities. If you want to show your support for this work you can tweet in solidarity using the following template:

Pride in Practice Training Academy
LGBT Foundation's Pride in Practice Training Academy is for anyone who wants to increase their knowledge and confidence of LGBT inclusion at home, at work and in the community. There are 10 modules available so to find out more about what is covered and explore the learning outcomes visit their dedicated pages

Hidden Figures
LGBT Foundation's Hidden Figures report continues to provide a backdrop to the impact of Covid-19 on LGBT communities in the UK. It is a culmination of the findings from their online survey, existing research on LGBT health inequalities and their own service user data. 

Domestic Abuse Information Sheets
Galop, the LGBT+ anti-violence charity has published 5 new information sheets for LGBT+ survivors of domestic abuse and the professionals that support them. The resources are aimed at recognising survivor's experiences, challenge stereotypes and highlight barriers to accessing services. All factsheets can be downloaded as PDFs.

Silver Pride
Join Friends of Dorothy, LGBT+ celebrities and friends for the inaugural Silver Pride UK on Saturday 25th July; a culturally diverse and enriching programme of live performances, masterclasses and events to champion social inclusion and ensure elderly LGBT+ people are socially connected, celebrated and recognised for their contributions to culture and society. Survey: Impact of Covid-19 on LGBT+ people affected by cancer
Live Through This are a patient-led non-profit supporting and advocating for LGBTIQ+ people affected by cancer.
Their survey would like to hear from those in our community directly affected by cancer. This includes experiences or concerns around screening, investigations and diagnosis. It also includes those receiving or due to receive treatment, chronic care or are survivors or palliative patients. 

Keep informed with the work of the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance (HWA) The National LGB&T Partnership is a member of the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance. We encourage you and the VCSE organisations you work with to sign up to the monthly edition of the Department of Health’s voluntary sector team’s newsletter. They can be added by clicking here. The newsletter includes updates on the work of the Health and Wellbeing Alliance and news from the DH, NHS England and Public Health England.

No Longer Able To Care
The National LGB&T has been part of a Health and Wellbeing Alliance project looking at the importance of supporting unpaid carers to plan for a future when they will be less able or unable to care. 
This new report - No Longer Able to Care: Supporting older carers and ageing parent carers to plan for a future when they are less able or unable to care - highlights how older parent carers and ageing carers who face additional barriers to accessing services should be supported to prepare for a time when they are less able or unable to provide care. Please check out the Carers Trust website to download the report and the resources.

Don't forget the Partnership's website has an array of  publications available for download covering a diverse range of LGBT+ health issues. As we navigate through the pandemic and beyond it is important to reflect on the lived experiences of LGBT+ people and communities as we rebuild new ways of working and explore the additional impacts on vulnerable and marginalised communities. 
The Partnership continues to explore future evidence needs and will always publish on these pages.

Funding Strategy and Diversification post Covid-19
As part of NCVO's new online training delivery, they will be running 2 session over August and September to help organisations understand and analyse the current fundin situation and teach how to plan for the future.  

Pyschological First Aid Training course
Funded by Public health England, Future Learn are running pyschological first aid training to help people with different needs to cope with the emotional impact of Covid-19,

Volunteering in a pandemic: Lessons from volunteering organisations
This webinar was boradcast on the 15th July and shares what volunteering organisations have learned since the lockdown in March. It explores local and national efforts to tackle Covid-19 and how organiations have adapted traditional recruitment and induction processes for new volunteers while continuing to engage existing volunteers. 

Webinar: COVID-19 and Homelessness Services
Homeless Link continue to run webinars  focused on Covid-19 in relation to homelessness and how services respond to the pandemic. Recordings of previous webinars are also available through the above link.
