What's Going On?

Never in 1,000 years did I ever think that I would be writing a travel newsletter like the one you are about to read.
There is a major timing issue. Right now, it takes 10 days from the time you take the Covid-19 test until you receive your results. This from in and around Kansas City. The majority of the Caribbean Islands want you to have taken the test within 72 hours of departure, found negative, fill out their paperwork and email it to them for approval. Not possible. The good news for travel is that the tourist areas of Mexico are not requiring pre-Covid-19 tests as of this writing.
What about cruising from the US? There has been no date set to resume sailing from the US. Europe is closed to US travelers. Hawaii is continuing their quarantine program. The governor says through Sept. 1st. We’ll see how long that lasts.
In the meantime, where can we go? Here are a few suggestions. Las Vegas is open without the shows. Universal and Disney are open in Florida . A US river cruise company is operating a limited sailing schedule. Vail Resorts has opened a few hotels and restaurants in the Colorado Rockies. Amtrak Vacations has tours to our most popular National Parks. You ride the train and the company provides rental cars. No buses.
I can help you book all of this. The best advise I can give you today would be to wait to see what the world is like around October or November and then think about what I would like to do. If it’s winter time travel, book then. Any other time, book when you are comfortable to travel giving yourself as much lead time as possible.
