Aug. 5: Missouri Public Water Council will meet "virtually"

The Aug. 5 meeting and roundtable of MPUA's Missouri Public Water Council (MPWC) has been changed to a "Virtual Meeting" using the GoToMeeting platform. Participants may also join by phone. (This meeting was previously scheduled for Cameron, MO.)  The roundtable will feature presentations on "Maintaining Drinking Water Quality within the Distribution System"  and on "Risk and Resiliency Assessments & Emergency Response Plans". MPUA will also present a regulatory update. Our MPWC roundtable discussions provide water and wastewater professionals a great forum for lively discussions on current projects, goals, and topics of interest. As always, the MPWC meetings are a FREE EVENT for MPUA municipal members. We're working with DNR to obtain OpCert credits for this event. A meeting agenda is HERE. Please RSVP to training@mpua.org, and contact MPUA's Lacey Hirschvogel for meeting login and call-in info.

LAST CHANCE: Please nominate someone for 2020 Alliance Awards

Every utility has outstanding public servants. Whether it is a long-term employee or a rising star, it’s time to recognize their dedication!  Nominations are sought for MPUA’s 2020 Alliance Awards, to be presented at this year’s annual conference. The awards honor outstanding achievements, vision and dedication to municipal utilities by individuals and member utilities within the Missouri Public Utility Alliance. Please nominate a deserving individual or municipal utility for one of the awards before the August 3 deadline. Award descriptions and a nomination form are included in our CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FORM. Please email completed nomination forms to events@mpua.org, or fax them to 573-445-0680.

APPA survey seeks information from members related to COVID-19 financial impacts

The American Public Power Association is conducting a very short survey of members to determine the continuing financial impacts of COVID-19 on customer non-payments. This APPA survey is a follow-up to a longer survey conducted in May that requested information on load decline, reserve policies, and costumer non-payment. Take part in the survey HERE

AWIA TOOLKIT: Assistance to public water systems for AWIA Risk & Resiliency Assessments and Emergency Response Plans

America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) requires public water systems serving populations of 3,300 to 50,000 to conduct a Risk and Resiliency assessment and submit a completed certification to EPA by June 30, 2021. Six months after submittal, an Emergency Response Plan must be submitted.

The Missouri Public Water Council is offering a toolkit to guide communities through the process of requirement compliance. The toolkit, currently in development, will provide communities easy-to-follow resources to allow for a ready-to-go EPA certification submittal. The toolkit will be available  to subscribers by or before Dec. 31, 2020, providing communities time to complete the assessment before the June 30 federal deadline. The toolkit will include an in-depth approach to understanding the resiliency of your systems, including Missouri specific assistance, Emergency Response Plan tools, in-person (or virtual) workshops, and question & answer sessions.

The MPUA Resource Services Corporation is contracting with HDR, Inc. for toolkit support. See our toolkit flyer HERE, and to take advantage of this low-cost compliance toolkit or for more information, email MPUA’s Lacey Hirschvogel, or call 573-445-3279.
